Norovirus has sickened a lot of people in my town. I heard yesterday there were 70 kids in the school nurse's office at school, all throwing up.
And, maybe you're pregnant.

**WARNING THIS INCLUDES STOMACH SICKNESS**
The past two days I have gone riding in our blistering Texas summer. Yesterday we went mountain biking in the afternoon, it was about 4:00 but a shady trail. After three breaks laying on the ground I ended up throwing up. It was awful I felt better but didn't feel like eating the rest of the day.
Today we went on a road ride and I stopped with 3 miles from the house and waited for DH to get our truck. While I was waiting I tried to sip drinks and just keep my heart rate down. I was in the shade but the breeze was slight. By the time DH got back 10-15 later with the truck and a cold towel for me, I was bolting to the trash can. This was way more awful, I spent a good 2 minutes dry heaving. I was able to eat dinner tonight.
I have lived in Texas 29 years, this is the first time I have ended up like this. I was well hydrated, is there any other way to keep heat from making you sick? I dumped water on my head, rode within my limits in fact I was taking hills easy, put ice in my bra, ate enough to not bottom out, and took breaks. I am only worried because of the frequency of getting sick.![]()

I too have gotten the dry (or not so dry) heaves from cycling.
In fact I got my first taste after picking up my first bike, riding up a hill and had to stop. I was so unfit!
Apart from heat and too high a heart rate I have also found nausea/dry heaves linked to how fit you are and over-extending yourself.
I haven't have the heaves for a few years now and I put it down to drinking from my camelbak constantly, taking breaks and that my fitness level has increased.
Probably not the answer you were looking for as I see you felt you were taking it easy.
tucker- I have had the Novovirus three times in the last 5 years. It was awful and way worse, let's just say I am not living in my bathroom. I am pretty sure I am not pregnant.
Zen- You crack me up. I rarely puke so two days in a row and now I am scared to go ride. No one likes puking, me included!
Kiwi- I was using a Camelback Saturday and wouldn't take the bite valve out. Today it was bottles but I was watching to make sure I wasn't forgetting to drink. I am definitely not in the shape of my life so I probably overdid it some but not excessively. Last summer I became a couch potato for many reasons but the heat was definitely one. I don't want to do that!

I got really sick after my run yesterday too, but it wasn't hot at all.
Right now I'm blaming dehydration for what happened to me. But since you say you were well hydrated, how was your electrolyte intake? My #1 symptom of subclinical hyponatremia is low-grade nausea. I've never had the dry heaves from it, but is that possible?

Oak- Yesterday I drank the low sugar gatorade, with ice. Took in GU. The day before I had NUUN but I didn't drink as much. Actually the dry heaves followed throwing up, it was like my body wasn't stopping. A/C, the wet towel helped cool me and get me to stop but now my body is aching and I can barely eat. The humidity was slightly elevated so I guess I just need to stop thinking I can go long in the heat like I used to or move to Alaska with several of our college buddies! I think after researching it was heat exhaustion, thankfully it didn't turn into heat stroke.![]()

Exertion in the heat and humidity seems to be effecting me more now than in past years, making me feel ill. I guess it's just that i'm getting older (56 now)- i know that it does effect oder people more than younger people.

Maybe mine was a very mild virus after all. DH isn't feeling right today, and I'm very much better but not 100%.

Body aches and can't eat? I don't think it was the heat. You're sick, girl! Take it easy, greasy.
