    Question Skin care advice...

About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with rosacea...went on antibiotics and a topical ointment and it cleared up nicely. The dr. took me of the antibiotics and I stayed on the topical stuff....but now it's back and worse than before. I saw the doctor about it on wednesday and he put me back on the antibiotics again, but this is so frustrating!! I can cover it up decently well with makeup, but my skin gets irritated really easily and turns really red when I exercise. Has anyone else ever had to deal with this? I'm thinking the drugs will work since they did before, and he gave me a year's supply...but does anyone have any other coping advice?

I've learned to live with the red face during exercise or biking. I don't wear foundation - just a mineral powder - Origins All and Nothing. I also like Origins Perfect World White Tea Skin Guardian. Some of the products from Benefit work well for me to.

I'm trying Eucerin Redness Relief, it's supposed to be OK for rosacea. It's not looking good, I just started it last night, today my skin has that familiar burning sensation.

Use nothing but products for sensitive skin, I find anything else causes a flare up. Most masks and scrubs are too harsh, extreme heat (like a steam room) isn't good either, or alcohol consumption....OK, so I ignore that warning I'm not giving up wine or lemon drop martinis...

I'm due for a visit to the derm, gotta find a new one that my insurance covers. I know there is also some kind of laser treatment, I'd like to find out more.

    Rosacea

Wow! I was just diagnosed with rosacea a few weeks ago! Maybe we fitness types are more prone to it?? I am also putting prescription ointment on twice daily. My derm. said to be liberal with sunscreen and using foundation with SPF. There are a lot of foods that may trigger it, foods that are healthy and good for my keeping my cholesterol levels normal. Also too much exercise, weight lifting, hot and cold trigger it. I do all of this! My family doctor recommends exercise because of my HDL's and now my derm. says too much exercise triggers the rosacea. Can't win for losing! I think I will stick to my exercise and live with a red nose!! I not only have a red nose but polyp type bumps on my nose that don't look too pretty. I was just happy to hear that it wasn't skin cancer!

Check out this site: www.blissout.com It's a spa in NYC and they have a bunch of products that are supposed to help with rosacea. Be forewared: this stuff ain't cheap. You can do a search on "rosacea" and some products will come up. I think Laboratoire Remede makes some rosacea stuff.

My sister has rosacea and has been on antibiotics for years. I don't think this is the best thing for her so keep trying to get her to try laser treatments for her rosacea, you might want to look into it.

    Good progress

Ok, so I've been back on the antibiotics for a week - the combination of that, the topical ointment, and my usual skincare routine has greatly improved the redness (and I just got my period - usually the worst week of the month for me).

Thanks for all the advice, everybody. It is nice to know that I'm not the only one dealing with this...
