I need to vent here just a sec

    <rant>

Why do they always assume there time is more valuable then yours? Even when I've been working with the same guy for three years and the relationship I thought was really good, he goes AWOL on me and wasn't answering email, phone messages, and even a post to his Facebook... it was like he FELL off the face of the freeking earth.

At first I didn't want to get mad at him, I was thinking to myself what if he was laid up in a hospital or something, then you'd feel sorry for getting mad. I found a post on his Facebook inviting people down to the local bar he's manager of for drinks, I did get really irritated.

I ask DH to give him one more call tonight and low and behold he actually answered and says, oh I was finishing up this job here and was going to swing by. LIKE H*&$ you were!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

He's here now and as long as we get the work finished I guess all is good in the end... perhaps I'll forget to write the check for an extra week or two when we get final invoice for the work!!

OK. Thanks. Feel much better now.

Totally agree. And don't answer any texts, calls or emails from him, but make sure you post fun stuff to FB to irritate him.

Someone told me something once that helped me with a lot of frustration. In her words, we "make up a story" to explain other people's behavior, and our story centers around us. This guy has time to go to the bar but not to respond to you. But, if we knew the real story of his motivations it would make perfect sense. Everything we do or don't do, is because we perceive it is in our best interests. (Altruism can be in our best interests, depending on where "duty" and such fit in our world view.)

So this guy was doing or not doing based on what he perceived his best interests, and it had nothing to do with you.

I don't know if I explained that as well as she did. It helped me a lot to think of it that way, maybe it will help you. Of course, ranting is sometimes helpful too!

Yup, that makes sense. We speak from our own perspective. Out "slant" is always going to lean or skew toward ourselves.

Thing about this situation we were told specifics.

    I'll be there Thursday.

Thursday comes and goes.. messages left.

    Friday. More messages.

Saturday it snowed and I couldn't expect him to show up, but sorta expected perhaps a call.

Sunday. We call "one last time" and he answers and DH was told he was wrapping up another job and was going to stop by.

I read this as I was just going to stop by and assume you would be home on a Sunday evening for me to finish the job without ANY communication.

OK. We were home and did get the job finished. Is a little communication too much to ask for? I am not an inconsiderate person, totally the opposite actually, I'm normally pretty accommodating and understanding.

I guess this is why it put a bee in my bonnet.

    Thanks for listening!!

Awwhhhh, I wish you were in Oregon not Ohio, I'd have my mom help you. She does amazing work and scores a lot of gigs out from underneath guys like that. Funny, she also gets a lot of clients who trust her more cuz she's female.

I feel you though, after our awful move to Bend (truck delayed for weeks, recycling the same clothes over and over) my mom's GF decided we should have a contractor remodel the kitchen. It would be faster, she reasoned, than my mom working her 9-5 and then working on the kitchen. Yeah, it wasn't. I got soooo sick of takeout and microwave food, ugh!!!

But, now mom is a licensed contractor, yay! And if I do say so, she rocks.
