    Dogs

    Hi everyone,

First off, thanks for the great encouragement from my first thread yesterday. Your enthusiasm is contagious!

I've been spending most of my day looking through the forums for information on dogs, but I'm a forum neophyte and I'm not sure I'm searching correctly.

I live in the country and I can usually count on five or six dogs chasing me on a 15 mile or so ride. Mostly I can outrace them, but a few of them are fast and keep up with me for a bit. I'm not so afraid of getting bit (well, alright, I'm petrified of getting bit) but some of these dogs are so fast that I'm afraid they'll run in front of my front tire. Not only do I not want to hurt THEM, but I really don't want to fall, especially at about 18 to 20 mph.

What I've been doing for now is squirting them with water from my water bottle. Seems to slow them down a bit (and the look on their faces is priceless), but I have read in a post somewhere about pepper spray. Where do you keep it so it's handy? Do you keep it in the pocket in your jersey? I'd love some advice.

    Thanks!

There are a few discussions here about dogs... most notibly Emily

My connection is too slow to find the links here... but maybe someone else can pop them in...

I only have had the neighbours dogs that are all bark to deal with, and I yell at them and they go away

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

Thank you! I look forward to hearing from anyone about it, and I'll keep searching the forums, too.

At least I get a good sprint when they chase me!

I sent NorCalGal a private message ~ just didn't want anyone to think that I ignored her! Whenever anyone mentions the D O G word, I perk right up!

Be careful which direction the wind is coming from when you pepper spray the dogs! I would think they wouldn't chase you too much more after that.

We have a three legged dog that always likes to chase us, but obviously she's not that fast.... We came to her house one day and she was in the middle of the road with her daughter I guess, a mini version of her but with four legs , and they had a whole herd of pigs with them they were herding across the road out of a cornfield....You see the darndest things bicycling!
