    Short Shorts

    To disable ads, please log-in.

    Hello all,

my wife is interested in a pair of Short Shorts but she is concerned about the quality of the chamios for long distance rides. She typically rides 15 to 20 miles on a normal ride but does like an occasional 50 miler. She rides a Specialized Roubiax and likes to push herself. She currently likes the mens medium PI Attack shorts, but she wants something shorter. She is looking at the following two items:

    SHEBEEST RPM Short - http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=9713

Pearl Izumi Sugar Short - http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=12220

any advice you have that I can pass along would be greatly appreciated.

    - Roy asking for wife Kim.

Hi Roy! What a good boy you are

I love the Sugar Shorts; just found a new home for all my "other PI's" and now own ONLY 4 pr of Sugar Shorts and 1 pr of Sugar Short Knickers.

    And TE carries both

Sugar Shorts rock. Those are my daily shorts, for any ride shorter than a century.

    Buy many pairs.

Good on ya, Roy Of course, you'll score points with either pair, but why not up the ante and get her both pairs? She'll be doubly happy and you may find yourself doubly rewarded

Of course, if you go this route, we will expect a full compare/contrast review from your wife

Hey Roy, thanks for asking...I actually didn't get them as I was wondering the same thing. But, one thing I don't like...they aren't low rise and I have a VERY short waist.

Any suggestions for a nice short-short that doesn't come up under your boobs if you have a short waist?? And I like to ride 45+ plus miles on the weekends and ride only 11 miles each way to work weekdays.
I get to have pizza after this, right? No...wait...cheesecake....

I'm 5'4" and have a fairly short waist. Many shorts actually give me an upset stomach because the elastic band rides too high. I just bought a pair of Sugoi Evolution Shorty shorts and they are wonderful. They aren't so low that my riding partner has to endure any plumber's butt view and yet they sit a good 3" below my natural waist. The inseam is nice and short too.

Roy - After Terry changed it's sizing, I was in search for better fitting/more comfortable shorts. The ladies here turned me on to PIs, and now I won't buy anything but PI. I don't have the Sugar Shorts because I didn't want anything quite that short I do, however, have some PIs with 6" inseams vs the Sugar's 5" inseam (can't remember the names -- I think one is the attack and the other is the one is priced at around $79?.) Of course, the more expensive the short, the better I like them, as they seem to have a cushier chamois and provide more muscle support. Anyway, both types of the PIs I own are very very comfortable on long rides

Thanks Dianyla-I have a pair of Sugois and I really do love them...I think they were more like $110, so I will gratefully try this less expensive model.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the chamois in these shorts is very high quality (I'm training for a double-century in them).

i'm short.. so i, too, am always in search of short inseam shorts! i have 2 pair of the PI sugar shorts and only wear them on my short, after-work rides.. the chamois is very thin (i wear performance ultra's for longer rides including centuries)

i've also found the sugar shorts (maybe all PI?) run big (or performance brand runs small) cuz the small PI's are too baggy on me...

i'm a tan-line freak and roll/fold up ALL my shorts so that i have the highest possible tan line though!

i also have some fox shorty shorts that are short (shorter than the PI's) but again.. the chamois isn't good for longer rides.. BUT.. is she's doing 15-20... they sugar (and fox) would probably be fine!

You're the second or third person to put in a plug for the Performance Ultras. I'm wearing Bellweathers right now which are only 4 or 6 panel and I"ve worn them for all my long rides but am thinking something a little more century-oriented might be better for me. I can't wear PIs, but what is it about the Performance Ultra you like so well??

    Thanks
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

i originally purchased them cuz they had a short inseam.... i continue to wear them cuz they are comfy!

they have a nice chamois (it has been changed for 05... all mine are 05 versions.. the change is supposedly a better change!) they've also lengthened them a tad bit (used to be 5.5 and now are 5.75)

i don't have any other high ends to compare them with... as the rest of my shorts are: performance century shorts.. can't wear long time in saddle... not all that comfy; fox shorty short... ditto; PI sugar short... again.. not comfy over long time/distance

i've been able to wear the ultras for long rides (centuries) and long length of time in the saddle (8 hours) with no issues (just the one issue of them not staying down over my leg warmers due to lack of grippers)

one thing with performance.. you can order them... try them.. and if you hate them.. or just don't like them.. return them! they have the BEST return policy!

i keep waiting for performance to both have them on sale AND a 20% coupon so i can get some of the new 2005 versions! but it always ends up being one or the other (i.e. currently they are on sale.. but no 20% )

Cali, the Performance shorts are now 30% off:

I bought a pair of the performance Elite shorts this year, and while I like them in most regards, they are very high waisted.

now i just need a coupon to go along with the sale price!

i don't have the problem with them being high waisted.. unless they changed the styling for 2005... mine all sit below my belly button!

not the sugar shorts and performance century shorts.. those come up over my belly button and i don't like that!
