I'm new to the forum and relatively new to cycling (road one season). I'm getting clipless pedals and shoes for Christmas and am so confused.

I really like the Speedplay x5's because of the large float and two-sided entry. However, a friend of mine uses Crank Bros. Egg Beaters (mtb pedals) on her road bike and loves them. I'm tempted. Anyone use mtb pedals on their road bike? Do I need mtb shoes or road shoes then? OY!
