The only supported tours I know of there are on mountain bikes, as the terrain, obviously, requires it. I don't know anyone that's done a tour there, but I do know quite a few people (regular people) who have gone there and loved it.

I'm interested in learning about road cycling & touring in Costa Rica. If you have toured either self-supported or supported (with a bike tour company), I'd like to hear about your impressions on where you went, length of tour, road conditions, drivers, etc. thanks!

I've been on a couple of organized tours there. I think our bikes were mountain bikes, or maybe just hybrids with fat tires. No suspension. I remember one Sunday morning the road was crowded with road bikes. It was apparently a popular area for the locals. They've been working on the infrastructure there and the roads were in good shape (the ones we were on, anyway), but little to no shoulders. There was lots of variety. Some areas were truly mountainous, and there were other relaxing flat areas that meandered through little villages and farmland.
Now I want to go back.
