    South Lake Tahoe question

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Darling Daughter just arrived in Tahoe for a summer internship. She's found a place in South Lake Tahoe Cal between Lincoln Hwy, the lake and near the state line.

    Any crime/safety concerns?

Your definition of where she lives is a rather big area. But generally Tahoe is rather safe. At least I've never felt unsafe there biking around or hanging out.

I live near the north end of Lake Tahoe. The whole area is very safe. Of course, you have to use common sense. A woman alone has to be more wary around the casinos after dark because idiots and alcohol are always a bad combination. But it's not like in Las Vegas or even Reno.

This is an absolutely gorgeous area. The summers up here can't be beat. If she's into biking or hiking or boating or anything outdoors she'll be beside herself.

    Casinos are in Reno only?

I'm afraid she's going to want to stay...

The California/Nevada line runs through South Lake Tahoe, so there are casinos there. They aren't the huge Las Vegas ones, but they do get a fair number of visitors. Harvey's has some nice outdoor concerts in the summer.

I grew up in Reno and LOVE Tahoe. If your daughter has any brains she will want to stay there. The snow in the winter gets a little annoying but as long as the roads aren't closed you can always drive an hour and find somewhere without snow. There are some amazing people who live in Tahoe too. The area you are talking about is a mix of condos - such as the Tahoe Keys as well as lower income housing - but still nice. I agree roadie gal - any woman should always be cautious though. Living in Reno - I would say Tahoe is safer by far. Of course, Reno is also safer than Oakland etc. So it's all relative.
The casinos would be pretty close to her.

Do you have somewhere in mind that would not have any crime/safety concerns?

Wanna go for a ride Sunday (assuming it stops snowing)? We are up for the weekend, and I have both road and mountain bikes. . DH is golfing Sunday and I planned a ride.

I'd love to, except... I have to work on Sunday out of town. Are you still around on Monday?

Yes. I am not sure when we are leaving - we don' want to hit hideous traffic on the way home, but we don't have to rush. I will pm you when I know.

Also eager to hear suggestions on local road and MTB rides.

It would be nice if it stopped snowing.

I brought the MTB and the Mercian. They're going to live up here, at least the Mercian is. We just did a MTB ride - lots of snow, but no ice, so it was fun. I haven't ridden in the snow before, and it felt really cold. But then I realized it was actually a lot warmer than the 200k I did last December

It is supposed to clear tomorrow or Sunday so I want to go for a road ride.

We often get hail at the Death Ride in July. In the Sierras you just never know. Of course it's supposed to be 80 next week, but for the long weekend... Wouldn't want that.

Last year at this time we still had FEET of snow. The last storm was June 8th. This year is so much better!
