    Illinois license plate design contest

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Illinois is finally getting year-round "Share The Road" license plates. The League of Illinois Bicyclists is sponsoring a design contest for the design of the plates and the winner receives $500. I know there are a lot of talented artists here at TE that may want to give it a shot. I read the rules and didn't see a requirement that entrants be Illinois residents.

If you are interested, you can find out more at http://www.bikelib.org/other-advocac...esign-contest/

I have no graphic talent... but two ideas (that maybe someone can execute):
    • A 2 color license plate (blue and "traffic sign" yellow): "Illinois, Land of Lincoln" at the top, a simple bike on the left, "Share the road" in the bottom line.
    • A design that incorporates a picture of Frances Willard riding a bike?

I like it!!!! I have NO artistic ability or I would enter. Wonder if I could submit a design with a stick person and a sun in the corner

Ha, Bike Chick! Your talent sounds about as much as mine! Virginia has them, but I wish they were jazzier somehow. Residents got to vote on several designs but I don't know how they came up with them.

Maryland's plate is boring, but I have it anyway.

Why wouldn't they want to make these plates attractive and stand out? Aren't we trying to educate the public and make a statement? We saw one yesterday from out of state and it was very nice and really caught your attention. I hope ours aren't plain

C'mon you artist ladies out there, come up with a really cool design, ppplease

I'd say simple is better. The one I like the best is the Oregon one:

The way I think about this is that most people will look at it only a couple of seconds. The message should be easy to read. Lots of colors and a fancy graphics can obscure the message.

I like Oregon. I'm hoping for bright yellow, based on the share the road signs.

    And the winner is...

I don't like the sign on the left... the graphic it's too small. But I already mailed my reservation form, anyway.

Here is Indiana's new plate, available January 1. I will be getting one in June when my current tags expire. I do not know how much this will stand out with that white background but I will take what I can get.
