    Question Masters v. Age Division??

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I am curious about the difference between masters and age group. I am 41. On today's race there was a master's winner who was 41 and an age group winner, also 41. What gives?

As far as I know, "Masters" category is for any competitor over 40.

So she could be an age-group winner (according to the particular prizing of the race she is in- they could be in 5 or 10 year age groups) and she could be an overall Masters winner - or first among all of the women in that category (40+).

Since no one else has said anything - I haven't done any tris yet, but some of the foot races I've done have overall masters' awards. Just as with the "regular" overall, people who place overall aren't considered for age group awards. There was a 5K where I won my age group when I was really fourth, because the entire Masters Women podium was in the same age group as me.
