New Bridgestone

A week ago I brought home the 1993 Bridgestone MB-3 that's been sitting in our shop for 16 years unsold. It's a rigid fork MTB of Grant Petersen design with 7-speed cassette. I've replaced the original saddle (a men's Avocet racing) with a women's Avocet and replaced the knobby tires with 26x1.5 tires with invert tread. Still need to add a rack and fenders for commuting. It's a fun bike to ride, but I'm still getting used to flat handlebars. I figure it will be my winter commuter, errand bike, and dirt trail bike. Here it is:

I have a barely used Deore XT rear deraillure. cage is pretty long 87mm. Around late 1980's.

Had to think long and hard on how it came into my box of goodies. Came from RB-1 bridgestone bike that I purchased from a friend. She bought it but didn't ride so I bought it from her as a favor. I didn't care for 105's and the XT so I swapped out the components with shimano 600s. The bike mostly sits on a trainer with the 600 groupo.

If the deraillure is shot, let me know. I have to check on the condition of the 105 cranks. It has the square tapered spindle thingy.


You must be pretty tall cause the bike frame looks like a 56cm frame.

Holy Moly- how did a bike sit in the shop unsold for that long? Nobody ever wanted it? I feel kinda bad for the bike for being all alone for that long. It's a pretty bike- and looks like it'll make a fantastic commuter.

This is a brand new bike, price tag of $900 from 1993, then marked down to $700 but never sold and hanging in the shop attic for years. It was too gorgeous to leave there, so now it has a home with me. The shifters had been scavenged off it, but everything else was original. It's a 52 cm - my road bike is 54 cm.

Ah ha! That's how it was there so long (in the attic- I was wondering). It's a beautiful bike. And for $900 16 years ago- that must be a top quality bike!!! I'm so glad you brought it home and are giving it new life.

I saw Bridgestone and immediately thought it was a mixte.
It's still a great bike. Kind of like the last dog at the shelter, then that dog turns out to be Lassie

If you decide you don't like the flat bars and don't want to spend the money to convert to On-One Mary or Mungo; the Soma Sparrow bars are a nice compromise and you can use the MTB shifters or brakes on them. http://www.somafab.com/barsparrow.html
