Wow...this evening our cycling advocacy group met...well here at our home where our guest speaker ...was from Sydney, Australia. She is part of Bike Sydney. Gave a little talk about latest stuff in Sydney.
Mayor of Sydney, she is just pushing through as many new bike routes as possible to implement by 2012.
She's a rock star for rapidly expanding her city's cycling infrastructure network...like the New York City commissioner of transportation, Janette Sadik-Khan has been doing for NYC plus the bus system.

Whoohoo! Im bringin the bike to Sydney!
Conquering illness, one step at time.
The local cycling group leader, Elaena Gardner, who spoke to us (CycleSyndey), reported that cycle commuting has really shot up in the last 18 months.
Am abit puzzled though why the maximum car speed limit in most residential neighbourhoods in Sydney, is 60 kms./hr. That is quite high and almost restrictive to allow children cycling on the road near home. Alot of Canadian cities don't have residential single family house neighbourhood with that type of high speed limit unless it is beside an aerterial road.

Oddly enough, Elaena took the Alliance for Biking & Walking's "Winning Campaigns" training with us here in North Little Rock a couple of weeks ago. I was pretty well stunned to look down the list of registrants and see local folks, some from Mizzourah, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, and AUSTRALIA!
She is a cool character, though...
