I Think My Trainer Took Its Last Breath

Three years ago I purchased a used CycleOps Fluid2 trainer and have proabably logged over 4,000 miles on it. Recently, I have noticed that there does not seem to be a lot of resistance coming from it when I ride. This evening after the club's trainer tour I found a clear, slick, oily substance beneath the resistance unit. Is it safe to assume it is now leaking? Can it be repaired? I just so bummed.

She's a strong rider! And, in our brief riding encounter, we learned that she makes things last well

I had a fluid trainer that bit the dust after a couple years of regular use. It was a cheapo model, though (I think Nashbar's "home" brand). I switched to a Magneto and haven't regretted it.

Try contacting CycleOps through their web site. Tell them you have a fluid unit that has leaked, and see what they say.

It may just be a seal that's cooked. That could be an easy fix, unless it's designed not to be fixed.

The older units had leak issues. They replaced ours twice for free. The current unit has been fine. I can't remember how long we've had it, but definitely contact CycleOps before you buy a new one.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did contact Cycleops but because I brought it used they will not replace the resistance unit for free. They want $200 + S/H. I might as well purchase a new one for another $100 and know if I have problems with it in the future they will fix it for me.
