A friend of a close friend was killed cycling on Wednesday evening. I never met her, but I can't stop dwelling on the accident. Not many details yet as to how it exactly happened.

I will be riding on that road on Sunday, getting ready to make a left turn.
I do see a lot of unsafe passing in Maryland. Some drivers don't give 3 feet, but more often they give plenty of clearance but they don't wait until they have a clear sight line to know that there is no oncoming traffic, so it's just blind luck that they don't crash into anyone.
Very sad.

((((((fallstoclimb)))))) I'm so sorry. It's upsetting when someone local is hit, even when we didn't know them.

(((((fallstoclimb))))) It's so unnerving. I actually just posted my own experience with a friend getting killed while riding in another thread. Such a hard thing to deal with - even when you didn't know the person as the cycling community has always made me feel so connected somehow.
Most days in life don't stand out, But life's about those days that will...
Ugh. Just horrible.

Thanks guys, and I'm so sorry for your situation Blueberry.
I was rattled for a few days, but I'm beginning to accept it as the freak accident it was. Well -- it was the drivers fault, and I hope she is put in prison for making a reckless decision that killed someone. But, also, it takes so many what-ifs for these to happen -- for the driver to make the bad decision to pass, for the hill to block sight of oncoming traffic, for there to be an oncoming car at the very moment the driver would jerk back and end up hitting the cyclist. That made me feel a little better, somehow. It's such a terrible thing though.
Oh how sad...I'm so sorry, Jessie.
I hate that tragic crashes like this ever happen to any cyclist. There are far too many lost too soon.
