Oh I'm really late to this party but I'd still love to join. A few years ago I had gotten really healthy and fit and got down to my lowest weight ever of 128 (for a 5'8" frame) I felt really strong and energetic, then I started to get very frequent intense headaches which made me very irritable, have horrible sugar cravings, fatigue, etc. I began gaining and stopped exercising. I finally found out I've been having frequent migraines (after finally getting a neurologist, 2 MRIs and a CT Scan) woohoo. So I'm getting back on track now that I can control them/know what's going on.

    Now I weigh: about 148
    Waist: 27
Hips: 39.5 ( - my friends call them child-bearing hips, I hope they come in handy some day)

My only worry is my Bday weekend, I know there will be cake involved at some time and I'll allow one piece and banish the rest!

    Yay I'm pumped!

I have had a good four days, my starting weight was 186 and now I am 184. I lifted light weights twice and have started a core excercise plan. Good job to everyone who has lost weight, resisted temptation or not quit after giving into temptation.

I've been SO good but today in a meeting our luncheon was fried chicken It was the yummy smelling fried chicken. At home I eat boneless skinless chicken but I had to have a piece today. And a bit of coleslaw. And a cookie

Oh well. I did run this morning but still I imagine the WW site will not be pleased with me.

Have yet to weigh myself but the clothes I couldn't previously wear are now being worn I still have more clothes to go though, I have the "not quite yet" drawer.

Our "rule" for my birthday is I can go wherever I want, and I can order whatever dinner I want, including whatever desert I want (or I can get a take out desert from whole foods). That way there's not a cake sitting there that I won't have the willpower to resist.

Welcome! And congrats on finding a med to control your migraines. Mine are, sadly, still largely uncontrolled.

That's a fantastic idea about doing a birthday dinner out and ordering dessert there, I think I'll try that out! Thanks!

As for migraines, I'm still looking for a good preventative but I'm thankful I have a triptan that works to stop it once I have one. As my doctor told me at our last meeting "Don't give up on finding something to work for you, there are lots of options, and we'll find one eventually" I know how frustrating (not to mention painful) migraines can be, I hope you find some relief or measure of control soon.

Oh, and to get myself back on topic , good job to everyone so far. I'm contemplating the WW site, I know how well it works, but I'm not sure I want to spend money I'd rather spend on my bike.

I've not managed to convince myself to spend money on WW either (that, and I have an aversion to it after one of our senior partners implied the overweight female employees should all join...). Bike stuff is more fun. But, if I can't get things under control myself, I may have to....

Unfortunately, triptans haven't worked for me. I feel like I'm having a heart attack. Not fun. I need to talk to my doc about preventatives.

I've been pretty good these past few days. Until today...I was in a rush and I did not pack any snacks. So, off I went to get my big cookie and well, I've been tracking my food and I'm not getting enough protien, so I got a protien bar. Those darned things are really a meal unto themselves and do not qualify as a snack!

My delemia is that I'm vegetarian. All my protien sources have carbs. All the fruits and vegitables I love have carbs and lots of calories. So, I'm having a hard time trying to balance the carb/calories/protien. It makes wanting to eat fruit pointless but I like fruit and it provides other important nutrients.

Are there any veggies out there with some advice?

    I'm still weighing 155.

re: Migraines a naturopath who is a good friend suggested extra magnesium for migraines and the person who tried it said she's been headache free since starting. YMMV, of course.

    re: other stuff.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I can't get enough protein every day, either. I get way too much fat, and not near enough protein. I don't want to cut down on fat because, like someone else here said, I only eat healthy fat--olive oil, etc. I will cut down on fast food, which really puts me over the top on fat even when I choose the low calorie options. I've made those healthy fat changes overall and I don't have much else to change.

I threw away Will's birthday cake, but not before I had a piece! oy.

So far so good. I did give in to one temptation. I had never heard of and of course never tried "puppy chow". A co-worker brought it in. It was not too bad, although it sounds better then how it tastes. It has rice chex, chocolate, peanut butter and powdered sugar.

    Start: 151
    Currently: 150

    I am on my way!!!!

Hey Dar, wanna make a change on the start of your chart already? I know I said I was 120 lbs right now (and I truly was on Monday morning), I've been 121 every other day this week so I think that's what I should be starting at. So that makes 6 lbs to go, not 5. Ah well...

Happy to say I made it through the third day of meetings with no snacking.

    This is good.

Great Job Everyone! I've been slacking...will weigh in tomorrow, but stress is taking a toll!

Coyote - I'm also vegetarian. I try very hard to get a carb and protein with every meal or snack.

    Example:
Breakfast: Chocolate soymilk smoothie (chocolate soymilk, banana, strawberries); half a whole grain bagel w. 1 tbs cream cheese

Lunch: Either a hummus wrap with veggies or I'll make lasagna with silken tofu that I freeze and eat during lunch

Dinner: Vegetarian beans and salad with whole wheat tortilla

Snack: soy yogurt w. lowfat granola and fruit or apple w. peanut butter

It's about 1500 calories and I get enough folate, fiber and iron!

I made a heroic effort to be good today, and had massive cravings this evening. Thought I was being good by just making myself some mashed parsnips (yes, I love them)...and barely put on any salt, smart balance, or sugar.

Then, on a whim, I got online and checked the glycemic index for parsnips. OMGosh!! Way, way up there. Note to self: eat protein when eating parsnips!

(OK, I'm hoping that at least parsnips were better than the whole plate of brownies I wanted to make and eat.)

I had a bad evening. Something to do with this miserable cold and low self-discipline. Someone musta told me to feed a cold...

I had a bad day, too. Started out well. . took a spinning class and ate sensibly all day. But after dinner I started my cravings, so I ate a cup of strawberries and a whole aerosol can of whipped cream. I keep sabotaging myself, and it's disgusting!
