Welcome to the board Ash. Free if very good my friend! and may you and your Schwinn have many happy memories together!!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Where do you live? Colorado High Country

Explanation of your handle: Cause this gurl is happiest when covered in durt.

    Explanation of your avatar:

    Age (general or specific) 37

    Occupation: Artist

Favorite bike: My Santa Cruz BLT

What's in your stable? 2006 Santa Cruz BLT

Fastest speed on a road bike?

Another picture of yourself or your ride?

What is the biggest lie you've ever told:

Most memorable moment on my bike: There's way too many, though thoughts of riding effortlessly through cold rain on quiet singletrack comes to mine with golden aspens all around.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Once again too many to recall.

    Introductions

Where do you live? Los Angeles, California

Explanation of your handle: Either it's that I keep track of everything, or it has something to with a combination of my names.

Explanation of your avatar: Still making up my mind what to use.

    Age (general or specific) 43

    Occupation: Software Training Manager

Favorite bike: Only know the one I was given as a gift - Specialized, Hard Rock MTB.

What's in your stable? see above

Fastest speed on a road bike? Haven't ridden a road bike since I was in elementary school. (Stopped riding for years, until I was given the above bike back in '98.) But on my current bike, fastest I've done was 27.5 mph, speeding downhill. I'm not quite a turtle, but I'm not a racer. Just slow-to-moderate speeds, steady, I'll get there eventually. I like to look around, see where I'm going, stop now and then to appreciate where I'm riding.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: ???

Most memorable moment on my bike: While doing a bike trip in Ireleand, Ring of Kerry, after a 4.5 mile steady incline that felt like it took several hours to complete, I finally arrived at the top, to see a lovely statue of the BVM. I'm a nice Jewish girl, but I thanked her profusely for any help she may have rendered it getting me up that hill, and for the rest of the day's trip being downhill and/or comparitively flat!

Most fun ever had on a bike? Same trip as above. Despite all the challenges (road conditions, traffic, the need to stop every few hundred yards and just ooh and aah or take a few billion pictures), it was an amazing holiday.

and welcome again Diggles! and yes motorcycles count - you'd be surprised just how many of us own motorcyles also! I guess it's that whole - oops.....I probably better NOT type out what my mind was thinking!

Good luck on your bike journey my friend! I always enjoy "watching" people get their first bike and then sharing their adventures with them. Be sure and let us know what you find - we really like reading about happy endings!

    Cool Getting to know you

    Your real name? Becky
Esplanation of your handle: Easy, my given name is Rebecca, I'm known as
Becky, combine the two and you get Brecca.

Explanation of your Avatar.....I'm working on that one...gimme time...okay, time up. Finally came up with an avatar all my own. This is the faired 2006 Catrike Pocket that I rode in my first race, so I have a special affection for it.

Where do you live? West Central Illinois

Age (Generic or Specific)... almost 53 and proud of it!

Occupation: Licensed Practical Nurse/ charge nurse in a rural Illinois Nursing Home.

Favorite bike? Hmmmm, tough one. Probably my fixed gear that my guy built for me as a Christmas present tied with a 2006 Catrike Pocket that I enjoy racing.

What's in your stable? I proudly live in a 22 bike home...or is that 23...it's hard to keep count of the ever shifting number. My Significant Other is a competitive Bike racer and builder so we have an assortment of bikes scattered through the house from homebuilts to faired low racers, including a Trek, 2 Catrikes,a Wishbone, a True Grit low racer, a Raleigh road bike, a tandem, assorted fairings, titanium racers, and our pride and joy, Varna II which in two weeks will be competing against the worlds best and fastest at the Nissan Tech Center in Arizona for the Dempsey-MacCready Prize for the first speed bike to travel 56 mph....and a chance at the 25,000 dollar prize! Rob English will be riding for Team Varna II....wish us luck gals.

Fastest Speed on a Road Bike? 34.7 mph...down hill...with a tail wind...leaning foreward...spinning like mad in high gear....where? On a stretch of hilly road near my home...and it's all hilly road near my home...when? Early this spring.

Another picture of yourself ...working on that one, too...

Biggest lie you've ever told? That getting your clip stuck and falling over on asphault at a stop sign really doesn't hurt at all....whimper....

Most memorable moment on your bike? Competing in the Macomb, Il senior olympics this spring with my guy on our tandem and winning the 1k and the 5k race against roadbikes and some really strong riders.

Most fun every had on a bike? See the above...with riding my first competitive race at Waterford Michigan this past Saturday running a close second. I didn't do all that great, but it was a real kick running with the big dogs and doing my best.

Explanation of your handle: I collect postage stamps from the Faroe Islands, and I've been using it for my Yahoo handle for years. The stamps are to die for--they are some of the best quality stamps in the world, and sooo gorgeous. OK--guess you have to be a stamp collector. Almost makes me wish I was Faroese! 78 refers to the year of my high school graduation.

Explanation of your avatar: I haven't worked that out yet. Tried to make one but it was too big. I want it to be a picture of my German Shepherd Dog Abby.

Age (general or specific) 46 on June 3rd

    Occupation: Registered Nurse

Favorite bike: I like the Trek bikes so far, but Novara makes some nice ones too. And Schwinn has some repros to die for! But as for the Treks, I've been trying out bikes and I have looked at various ones, and I keep coming back to the Treks. I think the Burley runabouts look neat, but they are out of my price league at this time. Maybe some day.....

What's in your stable? I haven't got a bike yet, I'm just starting out, but in 2 weeks I will have a Trek 7.2 FX WSD!

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? not yet!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? As soon as I do, I'll post it on weshots in my album--my webshots handle is shepherdwagen (the name of my VW camper bus.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Lie? What lie? I neeeeever lie! ;^)

Most memorable moment on my bike: Not yet! Most memorable moment so far was the first time I test road a bike a few weeks ago. The shop was right next to the bike path, and I took the bike out a 1/4 mile and came back. I pulled off into the grass and fell over! Glad it was the grass and not the pavement!

Most fun ever had on a bike? Again, not yet! Unless you count the above. It was fun, in a weird way. I've been having fun trying out bikes. I hope the most fun I have on one somehow involves my dog, Abby.
