Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

    Hey Cris/Brina,

Welcome! I'm in Chgo, too. North side. The flip-flop story is horrific! Any lasting scars to show with the story? Have you been riding outdoors this winter? I've gone out all of once, but am thinking of taking my bike out tomorrow, as they say it's going to be in the 40s. Welcome to the TE board!

Lise, we are in a north surburb - we should ride sometime. I am a fair weather rider - not much into riding outside during Chicago winters, so i mostly spin. I did get out on the Green Bay Trail on a few of those freak 60 degree days with my kids, but they are 5, so we didn't go far or fast.

Explanation of your handle: LOL it's actually a variation of my usual handle (which is ardent_moon). ardent means "characterized by warmth of feeling typically expressed in eager zealous support or activity; impassioned" (merriam-webster). and my old handle is because i love the moon, this handle is because i love riding my bike. it makes me feel alive and happy like so few other things do. so yes, i'm a cheesy, writer woman and that was what i came up with. lol

Explanation of your avatar: avatar? i don't know how to get an avatar on here yet.

Age (general or specific) i'll be 29 on march 28th (next month)

    Occupation: High School Teacher

Favorite bike: i'm new to cycling so all i know right now is that i love recumbents even though that's not what i'm riding.

What's in your stable? Motiv Performance Series Newport FS Mountain Bike (*chuckle* that makes it sound all fancy - my ex-bf bought it at Costco but it is a nice start for a girl on a budget)

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? can i report back when the winter clears and i actually get to USE my bike computer (instead of admiring how nice it looks on my bike)? LOL - not that i'm bitter! x.x

Another picture of yourself or your ride? no pics of me as of yet.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: the biggest lie i've ever told has been to myself - that i'm not good enough, too fat, can't do it, not pretty enough, not smart enough, don't deserve to be happy etc etc etc - but i amgood enough, am working on it, am doing it, cute enough that i don't mind waking up with me, have 2 degrees so i must be at least somewhat intelligent and happiness is riding my bike with my hair whipping out behind me... then in my eyes, drooling and snotting on myself, falling off, getting back on and feeling like jelly when i'm done. life is what i choose to make it.

Most memorable moment on my bike: i honestly don't have one yet. my memory prediction though will be that my most memorable moment will occur when i ride across my country.

Most fun ever had on a bike? the moment when i was 5 years old and i realized that my bike was a form of freedom.

Isn't that the truth! What amazes me about my own kids and their lack of riding. When I was little, my horses and my bike were my tickets to parent free days. Get up in the morning and clear the heck out of Dodge. Here my boys are all older than 11 and can you get them to go on their own around any of the wonderful trails in our city? No. Running out of ideas. I think I may have to start paying them to tour the town.

Welcome to the board all newbies! I've been off-line for a few so I've missed a TON of posts!

It's just gonna be easier to do a generic welcome all welcome and get to know ya'll through postings!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

That would be fun. There are a couple of us in the Chgo area on this board. I sure as heck did not go out on the bike today--chilly, windy, grey, in the 30's...but hope springs eternal. I grew up in LB/LF (if you live up there, you know where I mean!), and wiped out big-time on the GB trail when they were constructing it. I rode a portion that was still dirt with lots of ruts...it was 1979 and I had a skinny-tired 10 speed bike...caught a rut...face plant. Still have the scars to show for it. Looking forward to biking weather returning to the midwest! L.

What's in your stable? Trek 7.2FX

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Don't have a road bike, but I topped out at 20.2mph riding as fast as I could pedal away from a very silent and very big scary dog and his buddy - chased me for at least 1/4 mile about 5 ft off of my real wheel.
    October 2005.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Don't have any as of yet.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Will have to answer this at another time...after I get to know some of you.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Unfortunately, my most memorable moment was being chased by that dog I mentioned above. I'd like to forget it, but can't seem to. I must admit - I'm a bit paranoid about dogs when I'm on my bike now.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Riding all over town with my husband pulling the two kids in the bike trailer. We ended the ride with a sprint to the house. I won! Granted, he was pulling 50lbs of kids and the trailer, but...
