Say hi to the whales for me, then. I've always wanted to dive in Sea of Cortez...Isn't there something else special there- can't think of it right now- mantas? Whale sharks??

    Well, congratulations.

    Whales!

It has those friendly whales, too, that follow the boats around.

    http://www.bajalife.com/v4pg38.htm

I read that it started out with one friendly mama, who taught her baby to like humans, and then it spread to all of them. A biologist, I was reading, thought that whales were just reverting to their normal curious friendly behaviour, and that they only learned to be afraid of humans during the times when they were being hunted.

I've been looking since April (since we got here to Tucson) and have had zero luck. Well I just got off the phone with the manager of the local dive shop and since I did such a good job with the safety diver gig last week...she offered me a job! It's part-time to start but with tons of hours in July and August (heavy dive travel season). My SO and I will be fine money-wise now so I can stop sweating! AND it's one of those dream jobs where I get to work in shorts, sandals, and t-shirt while talking diving all day.

congratulations - that sounds like a awesome job. I neither get to dive nor talk diving enough these days.

    Ho-lee COW!

The Gay Games are in Chicago this year. I don't know much about it; never paid much attention... I wasn't at all athletic (I started to type "I wasn't very athletic." Yeah, if not at all = not very! ) Anyway...

I wanted to see if they had a triathlon. They do. Both Olympic and Sprint. Each costs $125 to enter! WOW! $125 for a sprint tri that's over in less than 90 min for most people. All I can figure is it must cost a lot of money to put on this shindig, and they get it from entry fees, in part.

It's July 16, a Sunday. I may go down and cheer, just cuz any triathlon finish line makes me cry! L.

Wow, that is so awesome! One of my dream adventures would be to kayak into the Sea of Cortez. I don't know if it will be too much cooler but at least you should have a sea breeze.

    Did someone say Margaritas?????

I reckon if they put margaritas at the top of every hill, I'd climb 'em a lot quicker!

    Memo to the USAT

    Dear USAT,

Please consider switching up the order of the events in sanctioned triathlons. I know for sure I would run much faster if I were running to my bike. I'm sure the other triathletes won't mind the change. Thanks ever so, LH

Wow - I was offline for a day and there are a gazillion posts in thread drift!

Queen - congrats on the job! That's super cool! I haven't been diving in 15 years! I used to love it. Enjoy it - sounds like a dream opportunity.

We're in Knoxville this weekend. I'd love to have my bike here - there are actual hills! It's amazing what a difference in habitat and latitude will do for reducing mosquitos. We sat out on the patio last night until 9:00 and not a single mosquito was seen! At home, we would've been little husks of people. Nanci - what are the squitters like around you?

We saw a team car for Team-Will.org from California with a big sign on the back that said "bikes ahead" on I40. Anybody know them?

according to the website it's a cross country ride that's a fundraiser to fight childrens cancers. There's a map that shows their progress cross the country, cool that you saw them. Who are they headed to next?

I agree, although I might wobble a bit on the descent.
