Lisa - good. Just checkin' I lost my dad in an accident when I was 15 and have always had "issues" with the whole death thing. I try not to think about it. I guess it's one thing I don't like about being 10 years younger than my mate. I know I'll likely be alone again some day.

On a brighter and vaguely related note - can I let you all in on my news? Last night, Boyfriend 5.9 asked me if I'd like to upgrade to the Husband 2.0 I said yes of course.

Lisa, I well understand that whole emotional process. Wish I didn't. About the best I can do with it is to just keep trying to enjoy life, knowing I can't control the big stuff. But boy, do I have those moments too. I expect we all do...

Mimi, I would LOVE to discuss that chestnut thing. How do you get "good" ones? How do you then roast them?

Had dinner with close friends last night--wife is Scottish, husband is Kashmiri, and he cooked Indian dishes for us (although no matter how it's prepared, I still think okra is disgusting. But the rest was great). He is also SO bright and well read, and she is also. We always love to talk politics and history with him. Last night it was the entire history of the development of Islam, all the different caliph lines, how Sunni and Shia came about, etc. Also laughed a lot.

X, wondering how you are. BMomof3, you also. Hoping CWR is warm in the Philippines, and that Nanci and CC are having good rides.

Trek, thanks for the ride report. It filled my heart.

Off to tour craft studios later today, where various textile artist friends are having open houses/sales.

For the umpteenth time today I've glanced at the wall where Miz Cakes resides. It's driving me nuts. She's in the shop for repairs after my accident. Bent the rear derailleur hanger... and after having had her for 3, almost 4 years and never once having had real 'official' maintinance on her (just what I've been able to do) I figured it was time for an overhaul. I have great faith in the shop I frequent to buy things from. Good guys, honest, friendly, so I know they're not jacking me, but even hopping on the winter overhaul deal (half price labor, plus parts) it's still expensive as h*ll. $250 (incl. parts needed) per the estimate. *cringe* maybe more like $200 if the bottom bracket and rear derailleur themselves are actually ok. For this, they're completely dismantling and cleaning the bike, waxing, putting in new cables and cable housings (Bontrager?) completely servicing the hubs, truing the wheels, looking at my bb (he said it 'felt' worn, but he'd check it out) and the headset, brake pads, total clean of the drive-train and... I think that's it. I get to cough up the money and take my baby home on my b-day, though, so that'll be good. I feel weird missing an inanimate object... but... she's not an object. She's my companion for the 3 hours every day I commute. Lately she's been complaining bitterly of my neglect, but despite the problems has always supported me.

Lise and all of us pondering the whole life's short thang, guess that's it. Ya know if we all just live our lives in a way that when we go lots of folks want to ride their bikes from wherever to pay their respects the world would be a heckofa lot better place. So let's get out and ride or whatever today.

I'll still haven't heard from hiker guy. He knows that my birthday is next week and I'll be in the Dominican Republic, so I would expect to hear from him this weekend if I'm going to at all. It's not looking good....

Oh well...I'll have to console myself with lots of Pina Coladas (and maybe a cute cabana boy)

well I mean I'm not even in contention. First of all underneath the AV gear I had the jersey that says "sorry guys, I like girls" and even if I didn't he's in Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa My gosh that's an hour away

I'm coming out with another gal from here to ride Cindy...er, the Cinderella (sorry X...I couldn't resist). We meet up with 10-12 other women from Salt Lake City in Sacramento. On the first day we ride the path into Old Sacramento, day 2 we ride down to the Woodbridge winery, day 3 we are slated to go into San Fran and ride across the Golden Gate and then the last day we ride in the Cinderella. I booked my ticket last week and will be counting the days! It's my favorite trip of the year!

Nice, AG. I'd opened a bag of chips and put them in a bowl for easier consumption. Ate all the chips, then dump the fragments in my mouth. Look over and read your first line. "HAAAAaccchhhhKAAAFFFFF" chips everywhere. Good one.

My son's girlfriend is having a cookie exchange. I don't even like cookies but
i accepted the invite and i have to make 7 dozen cookies to swap with 7 other people. 7 dozen is A LOT of coookies! I'm making biscotti, made 1 batch which gave me 5 dozen cookies. grrrr.

I ran out of almost everything after making one batch so i rode to the store 38 degrees out! and bought eggs, vanilla and almonds. So now i can make batch #2.
I discovered that the store is only 0.6 miles so i went a really long way because there's still a small chance i might make my goal of 2000 miles this year, i have 92 miles to go. and yes, i am counting my basement miles!
