    Mixtes in Philadelphia

Craig's List for Philadelphia has an amazing selection -- 6 mixtes including a rare collector's item in need of TLC -- the Anquetil.

    1. Peugeot -- tourquoise beauty

    2. Motobecane -- NE Philly (near me) -- looks like it needs work

    3, a fabulous Bottechia 5 speed

    4. an orange Peugeot -- sort of overpriced

    5. a white Jacques Anquetil touring bike -- about 50 years old!

    6. Nishiki in South Philly

These were posted to Craig's List for Philadelphia this week.

    sorry

I looked too fast -- the Nishiki is not truly a mixte.

    A thing of beauty

On UK ebay, there's a great find- a Dawes Galaxy Mixte

    Lots of pics here

I got to see one of these in person last week and it's astonishingly beautiful. Split top tube, then it stops at the seat post. Hand painting and subtle colors here and there. They even painted the rack to match on this one.

You should, you're close enough and it's not a bad price.
    I'm a sucker for a curved frame.

I love mixtes and keep trolling the used bike sales to find just the right one. I've been itching for a red bike for years. And DH has been looking for something "just right" as a 40th birthday gift to me.

And on Wednesday night, DH lost his job. No new bikes for me.

Wow! You guys need to come to St. Louis and look for mixtes. There was one on there yesterday, a Miyata for $40 and this one today for $80. I got mine, a Nishiki for $40. Those $200+ ones are outrageous!

    Mixte values

Mixte value reflects construction and material used. Good cro-moly like Reynolds 531 and good components like Campagnolo. Accessories also boost the price: lights, fenders, racks, carrying bags.
