I don't think I knew Annie. I came back to Masonic at the end of 2003, so she may have been gone already, or just leaving as I was starting.

Lucky you to have three dogs! Brina sounds like such fun. I love Rotts. I have a fantasy of owning a bunch of dogs with the same coloring -- dachshund, Gordon Setter, Dob, Rott...not going to happen, but a fun idea.

I am feeling a lot better this morning. Just weak. The thought of food doesn't make me feel sick, though, so that's progress! And, of course, you know I weighed myself--down 4.5#--whoo-hoo! L.

    Lazy Bike Clothes

I figured out this weekend that I am _so_ lazy, I would rather wear a cycling tank than one of my cute jerseys, because then I have to pick a sports bra, and even though I got two new Patagonia bras which match just about everything, they now, for the summer, feel too confining. Then, on my feet, I wear sandals, so I don't have to coordinate socks, even though I have a huge collection of adorable bike socks that match everything. Sometimes I consider the amount of sun exposure I would be saving by wearing a jersey (sleeveless!!) but I just can't do it any more...

On my Sunday ride, four people wore Shimano sandals, and three wore cycling shoes. It's the trend!

    Nanci, lazy? As if!

I had to laugh at that. There's lazy, and then there's lazy. Lazy as in "I can't be bothered to wear certain clothes", and lazy as in "I just ran 50 miles through the swamp and dunes for fun, oh, hey, did you see my pictures from the 600 km bike ride I just did?" L.

I looked at my Shimano sandals this morning, and thought, sooon, soooon!
The weather is perfect for it, but I'm going out of town again this weekend, and who knows if I'll get in a ride before I go. But next week, let the summer begin. Lise stays home. And rides and runs. Wahoo!

Lise, it was only 26.2 mles. The park isn't open late enough for me to do the 50 miles. Actually, the park wasn't open late enough for many peple, ncluding the RD, to do 50 miles...

But thanks for thinking I actually could!

Oh....pardonez moi, she only ran a marathon through the swamps and dunes. Now that is lazy!

I know you could do the 50 miles...if the park had stayed open, would you have given it a try?

    Lise, Maizey, BF, Performance, Clothes

I'm not sure. It would probably take 20 hours. I don't know if my knees/back would hold out that long. Sometime soon, though, I want to do 50k there.

I was all set to do a 50 mile race a few years ago, but my work schedule switched from 5AM-1PM to 6:30-Done, so I didn't have time to train adequately. And then I discovered road cycling.

LISE!! I'm putting the DVD's in the mail today!! Then I will no longer suck!!

And returning all three different pairs of the Performance shorts. Didn't like any of them.

Now, (not that I have any money anyway) I'm torn between the pair of shorts Susan recommended, Sugois, and a pair of Shebeasts someone else recommended, that have "cooling mesh" along the back, both ~$100, or the knickers in the cool print with a little black tank with a blue flower- about as much as the expensive shorts.

Whe BF went outside this morning, there were two huge packages. We don't know when they came- I went to bed at 8:30, he went to bed at 9:30- never heard anything.

One thing is a big wood and canvas wardrobe for BF, with room to hang stuff, and a bunch of shelves for the world's largest T-shirt collection.

    http://tinyurl.com/gjdrj

The other thing was a really pretty off-white/yellow distressed wood "boardwalk cabinet" for Maizey, for her tank to sit on, instead of the super-cheap looks like crap white particle board shelves and falling apart never worked right drawer thing. She has all her stuff and the glass lizard's stuff and the torts' stuff inside, plus BF's cave diving lights and chargers, which needed a safe place to live.

I am so happy!! Can't wait to get home and assemble the wardrobe.

    Cool stuff Nanci!

I was wondering how the shorts were working out for you. Thanks for the update! I have only 2 prs of shorts - both of less than great quality. They work for now, but I'm saving up for some good ones.

Lise - I posted the helmet info in the AV thread. I'd snatch that one on ebay. You might be able to pick it up in person.

    General drift...

This sounds wierd, but it's odd how things are really going my way right now at work. I applied for that job, you all know, and since then everything has been falling into place. I have been trying to breed disease resistant fish. This is the first year to get spawns - I have 5 already! That's plenty. I've been searching for genes associated with resistance. I'm sitting here at home analyzing data from my most recent experiment and what do you know - I think I've found one! It's been like that for the past couple of weeks. There are more examples, but I don't want to bore you. I guess I've accomplished what I set out to do here and now it IS time to move on. Unbelievable! It's really a wierd feeling. Does that make sense?

I'm riding a 200k on Saturday. It's part of trying to earn the R12 award by riding a 200k or longer event for 12 consecutive months, as well as counting as the 200k ride for my Super Randonneur award, since I wasn't an RUSA member when I did my 200k in January...

I'm feeling strangely reluctant. It even includes segments of two of my favorite paved trails! I guess maybe it's because I suspect traffic and big hills. Plus it's a hundred miles away, starts at 7AM, and the host hotel is $100, so out of the question (especially when compared to the price of shorts!)

So as encouragement I've ordered the Shebeest Elite Distance 2 shorts. I had a hard time deciding between them and the Sugoi RS Flex shorts which the only reason I was even considering was because Susan recommended them to me- but, I've had two Sugoi shorts that I hate, and have never tried Shebeest (unless the icky knickers that I sent off to CA in NC were Shebeest, which she loves, BTW)

    I hope they are nice.

Nanci - I just got the Shebeest shorts which are (I think) the ones you are getting. They are comfortable - BUT - that mesh area at the back of the shorts does NOT block sun. After the double century, I noticed the top of my butt hurt. Then yesterday my husband said "The top of your butt's sunburned!!" I hadn't really noticed it til he pointed it out.

So just a safety tip. Maybe stick some sunscreen back there. It could just be that mine are maybe tight and stretched out more - but heck, all cycling shorts seem tight.

Have fun on the 200k. I'll be doing a 200k myself on Sunday! (Roughly).

Hey, MP, I thought, "that is soooo over"! until I realized what you were doing! I just went to "last post" and read backwards from there. I also read magazines from the back. Books from the front, though. Thanks for your well wishes. It truly, truly sucked, but it's all over now. It is so wierd to be so repulsed by even the thought of food.

Fishdr, you truly are a fish doctor! Would that be an Ichthyphysician?

Nanci, Maizey and all her beasty brethern are surely the most loved beasts in the entire Eastern seaboard. No other snake ever had it so good. The cabinet looks really nice. Definitely my style. Isaac the cat is sitting at my left hand, purring and sniffing my elbow, now walking over and sitting at my right hand so his tail can rest on my wrist as I type. He would like to take a field trip to your house. To "visit" the snake and the birds...I thought that might not be such a good idea. I didn't tell him about all the alligators that would consider him furry sushi.

Good luck on the 200 this weekend! L.
