Loving tyres of all widths (and spellings) and legs of all textures:

“People have mentioned the mbt/roadriding division, which I think is crazy, but even worse are the big divisions within each sport.”

Doing my best to embrace all faiths.

Road: In addition to your plain vanilla road riding, I’ve done team triathlons and have now branched out into the LBS’ goofy TT series. The plain road riding has also been spiced up with monster hill climbs due to the proselytizing of the TE girls. I have been converted and saved from my boring flatland ways. And, Menage a deux, anyone? Tandems are fun!

Dirt: I’ve ridden fully rigid, hardtail, softtail, full suspension and freeride. I’m all for equal opportunity. The most talented among our dirty friends wear only lycra, including the ex-pro racers.

Bi-cycle: Built up a ‘cross bike last year. Swings both ways onto pavement and dirt. Now, the LBS boys have decided Bubba and I need to accompany them on their newly discovered levee ride. Apparently, it takes road riding to a new, um, level? You ride your bling-bling road bike with tres chic wheels off road. Crashing your Pinarello 6 or 7 times wins you more points. They’ve decided that Bubba and I are just the right customers with whom to share the new route. Gee, thanks. I think we’re riding it next Thursday.

Legs of all persuasions: I shave, Bubba shaves, we all shave. Bubba actually starting shaving because he was tired of being so dirty after a trail ride. Every leg hair would have a mud ball attached to it. So, you can shave and ride the dirt, and I’d love him even if he didn’t shave his legs.

But the question is... Would he still love you if you didn't shave yours?

There is also animosity between upright and 'bent riders. Some of it (I'm told, no first-hand experience) can get pretty nasty.

    Humph!

If it is moved forward by human power, I'm good with it. Especially if the human looks to be having a good time.

Carbon racers, MTBs, hand cycles, 'bents of any discription (and they are many and varied), 2, 3 or 4 wheels, tandems, sociables (side by side riders), whatever. I've seen 'em all at least once on local bike paths. They all made me smile. I've even lusted after a few. They're all good.
Give big space to the festive dog that make sport in the roadway. Avoid entanglement with your wheel spoke.

I'm a member of the "take no prisoners" school of humor, as in, any one can be target at any time.

The MinuteMan Trail Rant - I've howled over that so many times. Last time we rode Mt Tam we saw someone with his bar ends pointed back towards his chest so he could hold onto them in some backwards contortion. I had to turn around so he couldn't see me laughing.

Well, maybe he could have the cojones to ride that little old bike over to visit with Cindy Sheehan, interrupt his 5 week vacation to talk to someone who is grieving for her son.
The bicycle is the most civilized conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart. ~Iris Murdoch, The Red and the Green
