Avatar - see it in regular or 3D?

What's your vote? And, of course, add your reasons if you would like!

I thinking of surprising Bubba with tickets. He loves sci-fi and Sigourney Weaver.

3D is our plan. It's at the IMAX here. I can't wait! And Lise just raved about seeing it in 3D, so that just confirmed it. It looks pretty gorgeous. I'm such a sci fi weenie.

Shucks, that just means my lazy butt was right here at the computer when you posted, instead of doing any number of more virtuous things.

I saw the movie in 3-D. My opinion? Move over, George Lucas, there is a new boy in town - James Cameron. It was fantastic. Go see it. Now.

If you see it in 3D do you have to wear the funky glasses?

We're going on Christmas night, as is our tradition.

I saw it in 3D and it was AWESOME!!

It would still be awesome in regular but it did have some specialness in 3D that I enjoyed. I dont usually splurge for it but I wanted the experience so...

My first preference would be for digital, non-3D.

My second would be for RealD 3D. I can't do red/blue 3D because I don't have stereo vision (so I get some of the combined image and a lot of ghosting - a big headache), but the RealD wasn't bad - there were several cool effects, sort of like snow falling, and some good depth of field stuff like being in the trees and seeing what was in front and what was behind. My husband saw more features than I did, so YMMV. For about the next 24 hours, my eyes and brain were definitely fighting with each other, reading was fairly difficult.

My third would be for old-school film.

For most movies, I would skip the 3D, but Avatar is one of those movies that looks good digital. It's too bad the RealD 3D took away from some of the crispness of digital, which is what I was really hoping for, but it was better than film.

We saw it in the RealD 3d - absolutely amazing. We may need to see it in the IMAX before it leaves. What an incredible film.

I've seen in 3d Imax and 3d. The Imax was not measurably better

If you're right-handed, sit on the right side of the theater, according to this article.

Interestingly, they say the opposite is not true for left-handers. It doesn't say whether the effect really has to do with right eye, not hand, dominance.

The article says a fair amount of unconscious self-selection happens. I prefer to sit slightly left of center, and I'm right-handed but left-eyed. My optometrist says cross-dominance is much more common in athletes than in the general population.

    Hey, thanks--that's pretty interesting stuff.
