    My Stitches Itch!

And they look like bugs! I'm going to my doc this afternoon and hopefully they'll be coming out.

Just curious if anyone has ever tried those creams that are supposed to help reduce scarring. Do they really work? Not that I expect to become an elbow model or anything.

yoW! i missed a story, i can see. what happened to your elbow?
keeping it moist will definitely aid it in healing.

I have read about more than one study proving this again and again. new cells are able to grow more quickly in a moist area than a dry one.

Pardon me. I know you'll understand when I celebrate the fact that I got away with only the imprints of rocks all over my butt from my last trip. OK, you could actually see all the details of the rocks, but at least no blood was spilled.

Yes, you need to keep the wound moist. It's probably the scar tissue and the scabs as they're drying out.

Andy Pruitt had a good article on this. I'll see if I can find it for you but ask your doc about 2nd skin or Nexaderm type stuff. The risk of infection should be over.

I always take my stitches out early and I never go back to the doctor to have them do it. Does that make me a bad person?

    Comfort tip:

When I had a huge strip of stitches on the inside of my ankle, I learned that if you tape it REALLY tight, it doesn't hurt as much when you're riding. I found every little bump excruciating after I had this - 8 connected stitches, about 3 inches long incision. Your probably isn't as bad because it's on bony not soft tissue and farther away from the shock absorbers (feet/pedals).
