google says it's green tea shortbread.

Well, Donald's birthday went semi-well. He was given permission to eat by his doctor. eat ANYTHING he wanted. He actually went slowly, but still overdid it. Chocolate milk was one of his first choices (I suggested chicken broth). Then he had tea, ginger ale and sherbet.

by the time our kids (4) arrived in the evening for the rootbeer floats, he was kind of uncomfortable. and then my mother came and fluttered all over him and we had to throw everyone out because it was just TOO much for him.
Later just my sons came back and so I prepared to leave. As was I leaving, my MOTHER came back too!! (they had gone out for dinner together) fortunately she was just delivering her birthday card. Surgery on Monday.

Wishing you both, Don and Mimi, bushels of luck and strength.

That birthday meal sounded like decadent heaven for Don.

Good surgery vibes to you, RD and the surgical team. ((Hugs))

    Shortbread update:
I'm shocked. It mostly worked, and turned into something that I like rather more than regular shortbread. I sliced it into 1/3 inch-thick slices (give or take a bit, since I'm impatient), then baked it. It turns out my oven runs hot (done in less than half the time). They came out crispy on the outside, but still shortbread-textured on the inside. And they're not overly sweet. I think the only addition I'd make to this recipe is a little bit of salt.
At least I don't leave slime trails.

Glad Don got to celebrate his birthday with some real food.

Chuck and I send our hugs, and fervent hopes that this will be the beginning of healing and a return to health and a normal routine.
