Ben our new puppy:
http://furrybluecycles.blogspot.com/...ompletely.html
After losing Cassie 20 months ago, and Remy just 4 months ago, this morning I had to say goodbye to my beautiful boy Bailey. 11 and a half years ago, I adopted him from the DC shelter as a puppy. He was born on my 40th birthday, and has always been my most special dog.
He was diagnosed with kidney disease 6 years ago, and we've been battling it ever since. But finally it got the better of him.
There will never be another one like Bailey...I don't think the tears will ever stop.

((((((((divingbiker)))))))))))
What a sweet face. You don't think the tears will stop - but they will. You'll never forget your sweet Bailey - but you will one day be able to remember the happy times without the overwhelming pain. We said goodbye to our sweet Cricket just before Easter this year - it still hurts, but it's getting better....
Most days in life don't stand out, But life's about those days that will...
Divingbiker,
So sorry for your loss. The tears take breaks, but we always remember those whom change our lives. I just lost my Brodie on May 3rd. She sneaks in my dreams all the time, usually with her doggie smiles and often runs off laughing. They are forever with us.

This thread is filled to the brim with dog lovers! And for good reason, too, they bring so much joy and leave you with more lasting memories than you can handle. Our family lost a dog when I was young and we never got another one, but I plan on getting one or two (or three!) in the future.
I prefer dogs, but somehow I ended up with a cat. He was dropped off on the road where I live, probably with a sibling or two. I live outside the city where people like to leave animals because they figure we'll take them in. Anyway, he was very sick and weak, so I thought he was a newborn, a couple of weeks old at the most. I took him to the vet and it turns out that he was nearly two months old, barely weighing a pound. Here he is on the night we met in November:
He was very snotty and dirty and flea-ridden, so I kept him in the laundry room until his vet visit. He slept on (and in) the shirt I had been wearing all day. Hey, I gave him the shirt off my back! I think that's why he follows me around when we go outside. I sometimes tell my coworkers about my cat and me going on a walk and they're surprised that he stays close by without a leash. Later I heard that human mothers who have to be separated from their newborns are encouraged to sleep with baby blankets and send them to their baby so that they won't be strangers when they finally reunite.
Anyway, after a heavy hitting of antibiotics and seven months of Science Diet he's just fine. The vet cautioned against taking him outside until it was certifiably warm, but as soon as one of those freak mild days hit in March (we had a blizzard a week later), we went outside. He was underfoot the whole time, especially after we surprised some deer and they bounded away from us:
Now he's the king of the yard. I often hear the deer "sneezing" at him, which lets me know he's watching them, just out of charging distance.
Here he is a month ago, cozied up in his favorite chair:
He's a character. He'll stick his entire head in my water glass and drink out of it if I leave it unattended. I have a picture of that, as well, but I figure this post is long enough. Oh, what the heck! Here's a link to a bunch of pictures.
For a person who prefers dogs, I sure did write a lot.

I just scrolled through this whole thread and witnessed all your postings.. What an incredible amount of loss for such a short period of time. I'm so sorry! Though I enjoyed everyone's pictures and stories, I paid special attention to yours because I am also a huge cocker spaniel lover.
I had to say goodbye (for now) to my baby Jennifur in March of 2005. She was a few months past 15yrs old. I got her when she was 8wks old. I KNOW the kind of journey you've had with your older babies. The attachment,.... <sigh> I hope that you will soon be able to feel more comfort than grief. You gave Bailey the most incredible gift of love today.
Hugz to you. Snuggle with your rescue baby and take a nap. Take it easy on yourself today.

{{{{{divingbiker}}}}} I am so sorry for your loss. You know the pain, you know it will ease, but it still hurts so much right now and will for a while to come. Please know I am thinking of you.
JLMitchell that is one scrawny kitten! I can't believe how tiny he was! He resembled a 3 or 4 week old kitten.
However, looks like he grew to be a full sized and HANDSOME cat
maya's first hike.
she's doing well...we adopted her from the shelter at 2 years old about 3 months ago. great dog overall, but does have a little aggressive streak. seems to be focused mainly at men, but not all men. still trying to figure it out and teach her how to be a good dog. what a learning experience!

I'm so sorry for your loss divingbiker.
Ikkin - it's probably not aggression, but fear or fear-based aggression. (at least 9/10 that's what it is....) She's likely not all that keen on men... The trick is to get her to associate men with good things (he gives her treats, does her favorite things with her, etc.).
Of course, I could be way off base, but like I said, in most cases that I've seen... it's fear, not really aggressiveness.
BTW - she's a total cutie!
