I opted for the baggy kind. They've got a thin lycra inner short, then kind of an ordinary hiking short over that. Mt. Borah has some, and I just the other day found another very comfy one on sale. Jest a sec and I'll check the brand ... Canari. My daughter is also skeptical to lycra. Her favorites so far were a pair of knee-length shorts (boardwalk something?) by Shebeest, only the store didn't have her size in stock.Neither she nor I are all that much overweight, though we could both stand to lose a few kg. She may be just unused to the idea of wearing something that slinky. After all, sometimes you bike to town and want to walk around to do your shopping. I can't see myself doing that in lycra.
Also, I have an ileostomy bag that I'd like to keep as invisible as possible, and furthermore I can't have anything pressing tight against the bag or the stoma itself. The baggy shorts do a decent job of hiding without squeezing, and they hide my spare tire(s) to boot.
I'm hoping that last bit won't be a lasting need.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.
