Oh no! My brand new Ruby :(

My husband offered to drive me to work so he could have the car and I could ride home. Sounds good, right? Beautiful spring weather. Sure.

He put my bike on the bike rack but... apparently didn't check to make sure that the rack was locked in place.

A mile or so down the road there was a horrible "thunk" and he pulled over. The lower part of the rack, which angles down to let us open the hatchback had not been locked and bike had stayed on the rack but hit the road when the rack fell. At a minimum it was clear that the rear wheel had hit and was bent.

When we got to my work, we checked over the frame and it looks like there is damage to the frame as well.

I'm trying so hard not to be mad at him because I'm sure I could just as easily have overlooked something like that... but I'm pretty upset right now.

OH NO! That's my worst fear when my bike's on the rack. I'm so sorry -- and I'm sure your husband feels horrible about it too. I think this deserves a furious shrieking fit, somewhere quiet and alone, to get it out of your system for a while. And I hope this uses up your allotment of bad luck, too.

I'm so very sorry, I want to cry and it's not even my bike.

I commute an hour to work on an interstate, and bringing my bike to work scares me to death for this very reason.

So sorry about your Ruby. My bike had accident about 10 years ago that very same way to my bianchi eros. She still has 2 different shifters and a different handlebar but didn't hurt the frame. My hubby still hasn't lived that one down. No really we don't talk about it anymore- but now always double check when bikes are on a rack.

Oh man. That stinks! I think ZoneFive's right about the furious shrieking fit, I know I'd be having one. Hope you can get a replacement ASAP ... at least you've already done the shopping ...

OH NO! That is horrible! And this is just another reason why we have never had a bike rack but have always figured out a way or a vehicle we could store the bikes inside. I watched my friend's bike fall off her rack once as we left a ride, and it traumatized me for life!

So very sorry. I would be so upset!
