I decided to charge a fixed shipping cost of $100, that should cover enough of both packing and shipping that I won't complain if it goes over. I really struggled with the opening bid. I didn't want to put it TOO high, but I also didn't want to set it too low either. I DO have two watchers, so hopefully some interest is developing. It is worth something to me to not have to sell her for parts!
Good -- I'm glad you set a fixed shipping rate. That makes sense since you are in the middle of the country. I used to sell on ebay a lot, and living in NC, I got burned several times selling expensive items with fixed rates if the buyer ended up being on the west coast. In the middle of the country, it's far easier for a fixed shipping rate to come out fair. The original shipping rate I saw for your auction was $27.50, and that was to my (old) zip of 66208 (Prairie Village, KS), so even though that's fairly close to Indy, that rate is way too small for an item of that size. I am sure you would have eaten a lot of the shipping charge in that case!
Interestingly, I ended up raising the seatpost on the Jamis pretty high myself, so I am glad you got the taller one. My legs aren't particularly short for my height, but I am shorter than you. I used to be 5'2", but at my last dr. appointment, she measured me at 5'1.5", so I am probably shrinking. My "cycling inseam" is around 28.5", but since MTBs have lower top tubes, I was able to stand over the Jamis just fine. Glad of that!
