Wine as an antibacterial or how clutzy I am :)

I need to look it up, but I think wine is an antibacterial Why does it matter?


I was working out this morning on my own, and was moving onto some running and rowing intervals with a dynamic weighted bouncing ball to use in a front squat exercise. It is a way to mimic having a partner and it is fun.

Fun, that is, if you don't place your face in the path of the bouncing 20 pound ball when you are deciding if it is the weight you want to use. Yep, it planted me one. Right in the kisser!

Thankfully my teeth seem fine, but I needed 2 stitches in my lip. I was smart and went to my dentist so it wasn't near as expensive as it could have been. So now I've these 2 little tags from the stitches reminding me of their presence. Considering my tendency to want to ignore things I am actually proud that I was in my dental office 45 minutes after it happened.

So, what about the wine? Trying to decide if it would be painful to sip on it, for purely medicinal purposes, of course! I just hate to open a bottle if I can't drink it.

So I will be going to my niece's wedding with stitches in my lip. That will only add to my cachet of being a bit odd...

I did find some studies that indicate red wine supports oral health and has some antibacterial properties. Doesn't mean it wouldn't burn though...maybe not tonight

Trying not to get graphic about what actually happened to my lip, but I WILL say that the *$(#&@&($#($ numbing injections were far worse than what I was feeling at that point. I am sure that would have changed if I hadn't had it treated so quickly though.

I DID set a personal record just minutes before this happened though, so I've a positive take-away from the workout. I will take it!

Well, wine has to be antibacterial cuz it's got alcohol in it. (Think rubbing alcohol to clean a wound, etc.), so Yes you must kill a bottle (strictly for medicinal purposes of course, wouldn't want you showing up with a fat lip and nasty infection. Now that would be bad form!). Enjoy. Plus I don't think it burns, not sure though. You'll have to let us know.

I am sorry that I laughed at your description, Catrin!
For your information, lips heal really quickly. One time, my younger son slipped going up the back deck stairs, and his tooth went through his lower lip. I can't remember if they stitched it, after sitting in the ER for 3 hours, but I do remember that it was back to normal really quickly, in days. So you may not look so weird at the wedding.
I recommend copious glasses of wine to cure your pain. Seriously, I might avoid it for a day or two, but I think you'd be fine to have wine at the wedding.

That was supposed to cause a laugh It was the silliest most avoidable incident, so I have to laugh at it!

I had hoped stitches were avoidable, but I had a flap hanging from my lip...they thought it would heal much faster/better/less chance of infection with the stitches. It doesn't look bad today - that half of my lip is still swollen of course, but not too badly. The stitches are visible, but there isn't much in the way of pain though hot liquids gets my attention a bit. Eating isn't a problem, all in all, I got off quite lucky. My dentist tells me there is a chance that the two teeth at the point of impact could eventually die from the trauma - apparently it can take as much as a year to show up, but I am not going to worry about that.

SmittyKitty - LOVE your response If I was actually capable of drinking that much wine I would have last night ;-) I will wait until my nieces "gal's night" at her house Friday night. It is a DIY backyard wedding so there will be a bunch of women at her house drinking wine and making cupcakes. I am one of the wine suppliers and sleeping on her pull-out couch!
