My mother just sent me a link to a knee walker. I'm going to look into it. Crutches are torture devices.

Oh no! Was it the SMART Ride? I think they'll let you transfer that to next year. We were on the same roads with them two years ago when another group was riding down that way. Hopefully you can do it next year. Look up "Escape to the Keys" for another option. Smaller ride, less support, but same destination.
For 3 days, I get to part of a thousand other journeys.

    THAT TOTALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!

I feel your pain. The only thing I can say that might possibly ease the pain a teensy bit is knowing that there are SO many rides for you in the future. This is only a season, and while it sucks in a big way, it is only a season. Before you know it you'll be back on the bike preparing for and actually participating in an event. And then another one, and another one. This will be a distant memory.

I've been in a really, really long season of very little bike riding due to health. After more than a year and a half, I'm just now starting to do rides that make me feel like a "real cyclist". Only I'm nowhere near where I used to be in fitness, speed and distance. But I'm enjoying the journey back and hoping to be ultimately be stronger than before. My season has been miserably long. Yours will not. But because of what I've been through, I can truly feel your pain.

    IT WILL GET BETTER!!!
    GO RIDE YOUR BIKE!!!

My daughter had practiced and practiced her clarinet for district auditions her sophomore year. One week before auditions, she was hit by a truck. In the hospital she was saying "Will I be able to go to auditions?" (With a skull fracture and pinkie fracture--no,she wasn't.) She was SO disappointed. After we came home, her clarinet teacher visited her. He said she'd done the important part with all the practicing and hard work.

The next year she had performance anxiety during chair auditions in band so even though she'd again practiced a lot, we weren't sure at all if she'd make district band. She had a great audition, no anxiety attack, and was 6th out of all ~80 or so who auditioned which put her at 2nd chair, 2nd part. This year-- she made 1st chair, 1st part! She has all the solos! Wow!

You probably have something amazing to look forward to.

^ That's a great story, minus the injury part.

Well, this is now all going through workman's comp., so they actually sent me to an urgent care place today, even though I'd been to the ER five days ago, and was basically given a referral to an orthopedic doc (no, I can't use my regular and already very familiar with my bad ankle doc). The process continues, though this doc did confirm it's likely I'll be off my bike, or anything for that matter, for at least a month. On the good front, she did give me an RX for a knee walker, so once the workman's comp person okays that, I can get off these torture devices (crutches) and at least start moving around better.

I'm sorry you suffered this fracture and with such unfortunate timing, but that's great news on the knee walker. There has been a woman working local CX races with one of those. They're a really smart idea. She's been getting around at the races really well.
