SK's (and Bubba's) Big Utah Adventure

My first Thanksgiving in UT was a real treat as SadieKate and Bubba and Izaak the Wonder Poodle were in town visiting...which means that we had to RIDE (no matter the weather). I was so very thankful to have them around for the long weekend...I sure miss all of my CA riding buddies. We had two mini adventures, one on the mainland and one on the island!

We went for a short but extremely chilly trail ride in Mill Creek Canyon on Wed. When we got to the parking area, a good portion of it was glazed over with ice. Bubba proclaimed that it was twenty degrees but I think it was more like 28-30.

We bundled up and rode up the road until we came to the Burch Hollow trailhead. We then got on a lovely singletrack trail that eventually hit the sun. Here we are in our "Black Widow" outfits.

And here's SK on the trail

We ran into several nice folks (some of them more than once) and Bubba saved the day for a guy that had a flat and a nonfunctional pump. We were really, really cold but we still had a very nice ride.

On Friday we ventured out to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. DH and I had scouted it the weekend before and went for a nice ride then, but we decided this time to try a couple of other trails. So we did two loops that are connected to each other, the White Rock Bay and Split Rock Bay loops. We saw bison, bighorn sheep, Hungarian partidges, falcons, hawks, etc., etc. It's quite the wildlife sighting zone in the late fall. And while it was chilly, it wasn't like our other ride. And we didn't get gored by the bison as we rode by them, which is a very good thing.

I told SK and Bubba that I could get used to this cold weather cycling.

Here's the link to a bunch of photos from both days. It started to rain and snow the Saturday of that weekend, so SK and I went on some shopping adventures to REI and Patagonia (Oh! and we did go to the new Cabela's in Lehi on Friday night. YIKES!).

It was a great adventure. In fact, today as I was driving back from skiing, I found myself thinking that I still had time to squeeze in a ride. Sicko.

Happy to be back with y'all!

Yellow - sounds like you all had a great time and the pictures are beaut.

It sure looks cold though. I love Utah and hope to see more of it before I return to Aust.

She's ba-ack! I take it you're now connected to the 'net from the new abode?

Bubba and I had such a great time. His mom lives in SLC but we've never been cycling there (well, until my Little Red Riding Hood adventure earlier this year). The opportunity to see some trails with yellow was just too good to pass up. Fortunately, Bill's mom is very understanding and the weather cooperated.

Thanksgiving dinner at a wonderful restaurant where someone else did the cooking and cleaning wasn't bad either.

Thanks for sharing them!!! As part of my rehab. my little brother is flying me out to Nevada to visit him, and he is going to take me to Utah!! I am so very excited, and optimistic that I will be able to do some un-aided walking by then!! Looks like y'all could come up here to Massachusetts with your warm woolies and ride for me!!

I think it was all planned when we were separated at birth. At least that's the conclusion we've reached.

I think my helmet is on straight in most of the shots, for once. Although I did have help from Bubba in the one you reposted. I think that's why I'm laughing in that shot!

And Corsair, it's more like hoarfrost, not snow. Though if you look in the background of this one you can see snow in them thar hills. It has snowed a bunch since this was taken, so that trail is now not rideable without studded tires!

Did you check out the photobucket photos? The Lost Boys (whole 'nother story ) included matching helmet and bike colors on their outfits. See the photo of the 4 of us.

'K, back to bed. Is there a flu going round that involved severe dizziness, bit of nausea and a headache? No fever at least. Yuck. Dizziness over but headache on the rise. I think I can risk fluids now. Been sleeping. Daytime TV is for the birds. Nuff reading/typing now

awww yellow! I liked your other avatar better hun............your dog sitting there so patiently always brought a smile to my face!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Oh my, if you knew my dog, "patient" would not be a word you would use!

I'll try to get a dog-in-the-snow picture this weekend to use next...
