It was my first ride of the year as well! I decided to take it easy, as the bike needs a spring tune-up, and there's still some salt on the roads. I did a loop around the local college campus/my alma mater. It's a nice little 5 mile route, a few small hills, and a good wide shoulder. It felt SO GOOD! I got home and had endless energy til around 1AM.

I missed my bike! A trainer and spinning just isnt the same!

I got out yesterday for a 27 mile ride - took a long bath afterwards, but my back had been hurting before I went out. I can't say I was fast, but. I went! It's probably my 3rd real road ride of the year (I've taken my surly back and forth to downtown to go to the library or things like that, but not just for a pleasure ride)

Cars in the last week have been especially attentive and pleasant - I did have one set of teenagers swerve at me and shout something out the window right by my head, while eagerly looking in their rear mirrors to see if I crashed (how is that funny?). But I just ignored them - All the other cars have pretty much crossed over to the other side of the road to pass me and if they couldn't - just set behind me patiently till I motioned for them to go ahead and pass me in a clear spot. They've also been motioning for me to go on ahead first at stop signs. So that's been nice.

A couple of times when I've been stopped for "rests" after a set of uphills, I've had drivers stop to ask if my bike was okay - standard answer, bike's great. The motor's just out of shape.

Yesterday, I rode over a bridge with stone (?) sides and as I went over, there was bawking/gobbling/something beside me and there were 2 guinea fowl (?) on the bridge sides complaining at my presence. It was odd enough, and I was out of shape enough that I stopped to get their picture.

    Ouch

Too ambitious too quickly with the warming weather I bought a side-loading bottle cage but I like to use my stainless bottle so it fell off within the first 10 minutes of my ride. Luckily, there weren't any cars around and I retrieved it safely. Then I had to switch my bottle cages on the fly to ensure my bottle would not come loose again :-o

About half way into the ride, the side loading cage (screwed in on the seat tube) came unscrewed (there was one short screw...not sure why it was the only short one) and impeded my ability to pedal. Upon stopping, it wedged itself between the teeth of my big crank :-o No damage done

The roads were ravaged by the winter. The potholes were gaping wider than I remember last season and there were many cracks and rough patches

I made it through my 15 miles but after about 10 my sit bones started screaming!

I arrived home tired and sore At least I made it

I am regretting having specialized ruby saddles on both my road bikes - mid season, I love 'em. But early season, oh my aching bum.

I had a specialized jett spare that I was going to swap on to ease my butt into the season, but my bf nabbed it 'cause he hated his saddle.

I haven't been mean enough to steal it back.
