I dunno about you-all, but instead of looking at the Pres - I'd rather look at the biceps on the guy riding behind him![]()

Comments like that encourage mt bike vs. roadie divisiveness within the cycling community.
Even worse, it provides subtle encouragement for the yahoos out there for open season on dem 'der lycra wearin leg-shavin pansy-a$$ed road bike riders. As if said yahoos need any more encouragement.![]()

Really don't want to get political, but even though I dislike W, it is good to have a president who exercises.... I agree that the stupid roadie comments are just, well, stupid! I have actually run across Kerry riding in Concord, MA and he is a serious rider. During the campaign (when i saw him) he was wearing a regular t-shirt (maybe a jersey would have been too much for the public?), with lycra and a very nice pair of Sidi shoes. His bike looks pretty nice, too! He rides the Pan Mass Challenge every year.
Anything to get more people moving is good, but the comments about roadies sort of go along with the rest of the "persona."
I apologize in advance for offending anyone's opinions!!!!!
Maybe during the campaign he could have worn this:

politics aside...the whole segregation of mtbers and roadies is just plain stupid! we are all just out to enjoy, accomplish, release, recover...etc!!! no matter what kind of path we choose to pedal on!!! i in fact am addicted to both and have not felt better about myself in years...actually, i have never honestly felt this good about myself![]()
our climate allows us to ride year 'round but to go out in the trails with all those bugs is just downrite crazy so on the road it is...and to brave the pavement during snowbird season is even crazier...hiding away off road is where you will find most cyclist around here. most people i ride with and meet around here go both ways...makes for double the conversationwe even have the bmxer nuts mixed in the bunch!
...i guess i didn't take the comment but just friendly rivalry (again always looking for the good side) i am one of those people that get walked ALL over cause i never could imagine anyone being mean![]()
now let put a question out there...in the last few years (whether it be the two pres possibles in the last election were cyclist, the TdF, or the rising cost of gas...whatever it may be) have you noticed more cyclist out there??? or is just cause i am in to the sport now so i am just noticing the ones that have always been there???

I don't think reflectors on a mountain bike is a bad thing, lots of us ride said bikes on the street too. They can be excused. Now the kickstand on the guy behind him could be an actual hazzard. My x actually bought one for his mtb and it'd catch on stuff and even fell off a couple of times.
I tried hard not to laugh...
And you guys think I'm a Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty!![]()
Singletrack-NO, I don't have reflectors on my mtb and I only shave when I can't get away with it anymore or if there's newly clean sheets on the bed or if I'm thinking about getting lucky. Ok, I shave them a lot.-mind
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
People have mentioned the mbt/roadriding division, which I think is crazy, but even worse are the big divisions within each sport.
For example, people who only ride time trials and scoff at those who do road racing, claiming they're less fit because they can sit in the bunch for 20 miles and relax.
Or ...those who only ride track and laugh at anyone who'd want to competing on the open road.
Or ...those who do cyclo-cross, whose season starts in November, just as everyone else is widing down for a months rest.
This might just be the case in the UK, but the divisions among riders of slim tyres is staggering and not at all helpful. At the end of the day we all rides bikes and as a minority sport, why all the specialisation and division?![]()
Sorry - bit of a rant there, but lately a few member of our club have been moaning that no one is riding any events this year. Truth is, a lot of people have decided to try something new this year which I think is great - especially as some of them are not exactly spring chickens, but are willing to give something new a go.
As a TT/road club, we managed to sent 2 teams to a 24 mtb race this year. Admittedly, everyone did feel a bit 'roadie' to start with, with shaved legs and regular lycra shorts, instead of mbt baggy style ones, but everyone there was so welcoming and supportive and we didn't come across any kind of slim tyre/fat tyre snobbery at all.![]()
I think we should embrace tyres of all widths.![]()

I think there are more people riding (BTW, nice ride to work today) and because I ride I get questions almost every time that I ride to work "gosh, I'd like to ride more". Of course I always point the gals to here ;-)
but as for the price of gas riders my question remains how do we get what I call "economic cyclists" the riders who ride 'cause they can't get licensed or can't afford it and look freakin' miserable about it to think of themselves as fellow cyclists? Had the elevator door closed in my face by one on BART, cut off by another on a turn....
Class issue?
Do they resent me because I look like I also ride for fun?
Where's the jersey that says "Don't hate me. I'm really not rich, just a poor gal with a really cool bike!"

Trek...
I would hope that people who were in the position to be forced to ride open their minds (of course without letting the contents spill all over) and realize the benefits...i was in that position years ago...fortunately it was in a cycle friendly city! and of course as the saying could never be so right..."you don't know what you have till it is gone!!!" I can't wait to be back in the bike lane side of the white line (on two wheels of course) i have missed it since the day i moved to this *look out here i come in my (insert car of choice here) i don't know who you are and don't care cause my life is so much more important than your so i will speed, cut you off, slam on my brakes in front of you, slow down to imppossible speeds, no matter the rules of the road i paid my taxes i own it don't you know drivers here* state...ooooo sorry rant over
mightyeveryone did feel a bit 'roadie' to start with, with shaved legs and regular lycra shorts, instead of mbt baggy style ones
in fact the crossover here is so prevalant the mtbers wear lycra and the road rides include riders on mtbikes (knobbies and all) a true melting pot of riders here...i hope it is like that in my new hometown![]()

My 24-hours of adrenalin team had 4 mountain bikers and 1 roadie. He had shaved legs and everything!! He wasn't the best at the technical sections, but, DAMN... he could climb! Very, very strong climber!!! He was more than welcome on our team!Originally Posted by MightyMitre
