could you possibly carry a spare pair of shorts and washcloth to dry the affected area?

    Wet butt
    1. plain compression shorts without a chamois
    2. fenders

    Wet feet
    1. Keen commuter sandals or something similar
    2. wool socks and a spare dry pair for later

Granted you can't do this for the upcoming ride. But it's something to consider for the future.

zen... you ALWAYS make me laugh!!!!

I picked up about 6 sample sizes of chamois butter (it's purple and yellow packaging). I figured it can fit into my nifty Bento Box....

I guess I'll just have to have wet feet, unless my support car meets us for lunch, which I doubt.

Who knows how this whole thing will go... i'm just so excited to do it for my mom!!!

    The correct term is "hoo-hah".

I saw rain shorts in Mallorca. They go to the thighs, are completely impermeable (you'd sweat somewhere else) and protect your anatomy from the wetness. It really is like sitting around in wet diapers plus grit. Yuk.

And do the waterproof bootie thing, or try and ride w/o socks - the insoles etc. will get unpleasantly soggy.

Rain shorts?! They obviously have no idea how much a woman SWEATS in that area.

It's not like guys don't... of course they go over regular shorts, sorry if that didn't come across.

after all you don't really get cold on the bare lower legs in rain if the temperature is ok.

It seems to me to make more sense than iffy-impermeable long pants.

I like this stuff when I know it's going to be really wet...

Caveat- it's really gooey, smells kinda odd, and hard to wash out of your chamois, but it'll still be there, doing its job, no matter how soaked you get.

I usually put it on the skin, but you can put it on the chamois, too. Whatever you do, don't put chamois creme in your vagina. Ever. If you chafe there during a bike ride, then yer doin' something wrong...

Could not have survived last summer's RAIN (Ride Across INdiana) without Chamois Butt'r. Thunderstorms at the start and rain for the first 40+ miles, then sunny and hot for the next 120 miles. Everything dried out except for the feet -- still prunish and soaked at the finish -- but, oh the grit, grit, grit, grit!!! Grit in places that boggle the mind. An unbelievable amount of grit.

We stopped at a friend's house for lunch rather than the official lunch stop and I was able to change my shorts and socks. OMG; the relief. Thankfully, my butt didn't get anywhere near as chafed as it might have otherwise. Even when RAIN is dry, you get really dirty during it.

It's not like I put it there on purpose, but how the heck do you keep some of it from going in, while still using enough to protect the labia???

That is why I use Body Glide. It has a consistency of deodorant and protects against moisture and chaffing and you can put it where you want it without having it go in those places you don't want it to go.

I live for chamois cream! I mush it in to the seams of my shorts, then top it off with a dollop onver my twinkle twinkie hoo-haa lady bits whatever you want to call them. The more the merrier I say!

It will stick to the inner side of the labia minora? I can't imagine deodorant would stick there.

Also, does it have paraben preservatives? Their ingredient list isn't online.

ETA: drugstore.com has an ingredient list and it looks pretty safe. I think I'll try it... if it'll stick.
