    Exclamation Southern TE'ers: heads up!

    From The Weather Channel:

Tornado outbreak likely today: We'll produce the forecast reasoning soon with graphics but here's what you need to know:

Where: The Lower Mississippi Valley leading into the Gulf States (basically Dixie Alley).

Large cities inside threat zone: Memphis, Jackson, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile.

Timing: May begin as early as lunchtime tomorrow and continue well into evening.

From Jackson, Mississippi National Weather Service forecast discussion:

"Many elements are coming together for a significant severe weather Thursday.
Long track supercell thunderstorms seem likely.
These storms will all have the potential to produce very large hail (golf to baseball), destructive winds of 75 mph or greater and tornadoes.
Some of these tornadoes could be of the long track variety and strong to violent.
That is a strong statement and rarely ever used."

We got the tail end with strong winds, lightning, thunder, rain, light hail and whining about said hail from DH whose truck does not fit in the garage. Hope everyone else is safe, I am looking for caffeine because my sleep was rudely interrupted at 3:47 am-5:08am.

ETA- Or maybe we got this before it moved east? I don't know, a dry line came through this morning. Stupid weather men claimed it would be dry and maybe just a shower so I didn't even expect to hear a rain drop.

Dark, rainy, windy, here at the bottom end of the Mississippi River in the Big Easy.

The Pearl River (border of Louisiana & Mississippi) and Tangipahoa Rivers are already at flood stages - have flooded homes. And you thought all the spring floods were in the Red River valley in N. Dakota (me too, until I saw it on the news).

Massive thunderstorm at 5:00am, now just rain, rain, rain. Wonder if my after-work ride will go on.

    You Southern gals take care.

Does it seem to anyone else that the tornado areas seem to be moving South? We used to have them constantly here in Central IL, but in the last few years it seems to be more concentrated down south.

Yeah it was 3:45 this morning when my 70lb lab jumped in the middle of the bed having an "OMG LIGHTING!" freakout. Didn't have a clue it was going to do that, we both had to get up and close windows, disconnect antennas, who knows what else went on downstairs. I sat and watched the radar for a while, It as a nice strong storm. Just when I thought it was calming down the rain and hail would start back up again. Last thing I remember it was pushign 5am...next thing it was 6:53...and I had a 7am appt.

I vote for afternoon/evening storms, no more middle of the night stuff.

It slid by us already, just some rain and no storms. Lucked out once again.

Just hit me as I pulled in from my ride - Perfect Timing!

    Tornado Watch (that's good)...and thunder/lightning everywhere.

    Ahhh! The sounds of spring.

As a post script - Growing up in Alabama, in the 70's, there were two years when we had 3 tornado warnings per week for about 2 months...
