The advice about mixing up my training route is good. I hadn't thought about reasons why, other than I get bored going the same way all the time.
In this part of the country people are somewhat aloof although not unfriendly or hostile. I think I would probably try to go past her house on my bike to see if I can spot her. There is a trailer in her driveway for a horse-shoeing business, and maybe I could contact her that way. I would like to get a bunch of people together from this small town so we could practice group riding. One of the big centuries actually comes through this area in July, although you wouldn't think of this town being very friendly toward cyclists. It's more of a Nascar town.
