It depends on how bad the sprain is and it sounds like yours is pretty bad if you are still swollen a day and a half later. I would refrain from strenuous stuff for at least a week. You don't want to reinjure yourself. Sprains are very susceptible to reinjury. If you are feeling antsy, concentrate on upper body and core exercises.

Tried to do an easy walk/run today to see if I could do that (as opposed to a regular run) without aggravating this blasted IT band problem...no such luck, it still started hurting after about fifteen minutes. Ugh. I'm using the foam roller and stretching, and I found some strengthening exercises and more stretches online that I will start doing. I guess for a couple of weeks I should just do those, not even attempt to run (or do a long hike, which I think may be part of how I did this in the first place), and stick to the bike and swimming.

Well -- over the weekend I got in 60 miles! The breast cancer 3-day!

I got a pain in the front of my left lower limb after lunch on day 1 (didn't roll it, but it felt like it). Over the weekend the pain got pretty bad -- iced and Motrin, but couldn't really "stay off of it", which I normally would have done. It was pretty bad by Monday, but is slowly improving. I've done nothing (except for my pushups and situps!) since then. I think I'll give the walk/run thing a break for a week or so, then try to slowly ramp up again.

It's all worth it! NO BLISTERS again this year. YAY!

Since I can't run this weekend--still nursing sprained ankle--I'm going to volunteer at the race. I already had sitter booked, it works out perfectly.

I'm excited to help out. Plus, it's Oktoberfest, so there will be free beer and food.
