I had my first goathead flat of the season today I hate those freaking things! I called our County's "noxious weed" program and they said they've given up on the goatheads. They are worse this year than I've ever seen. Anyway, this was the first time I've changed a flat out on the road all by myself. I've fixed flats before but I've either been close enough to home to walk and then I've fixed it in the comfort of my garage, or I've had someone with me to help. One of my tire levers snapped in two, but other than that, it was a cinch!

24.6 hilly miles today and I was tired. I rode 42 very hilly miles yesterday and my quads were screaming at me today.

Metro D.C. area, mostly....occasionally wandering up into Frederick County or out on the Eastern Shore.
Do check us out in the Mid-Atlantic area forum for rides and such. We do casually paced rides and moderate rides, both on road and off. We always wait at the top of hills and at major turns. And often, we end with a lunch stop somewhere fun!

Some of us will be doing the Civil War Century, which may be closer to your area.

Recovery week for me. Did 41.7km (26miles) today. North wind, but gorgeous, sunny..perfect. My guests have left..back to better eating (and less drinking...)

I got up early (6 a.m.) so that I could work on finishing sealing my driveway. If I was finished by 9 a.m. I would have just enough time to clean up my tools, shower and head to Louisville for the 50 mile ride. I finished just after 9 and made it with a few minutes to spare.

Very early into the ride I came to the conclusion I really did not feel like riding. My legs were so heavy and non responsive after the hilly century we rode yesterday. After a bit of a pep talk I convinced myself to keep riding but at a slow pace and to simply enjoy the route. Well that worked until I had to climb and then I was not having a lot of fun. However, after the first 25 miles or so my legs seemed to come to life and I was able to pick up the pace. This was a scenic route, low traffic and it took us through the towns of Crestwood, LaGrange, Buckner and Prospect but it was also very hilly. I think tomorrow will be an easy, slow day on my bike.

Put on 18 miles today. For me, thats pretty good. Apt to work is 4, and then 11 miles around the state park, and then 3 more miles back home. Hopefully I work on doing longer rides. For the most part, I legs can handle it, but my lungs just start burning with those extra long climbs!

Went out with melissam, mel's brother, and dachshund for the flattest 50 mile ride imaginable.

We started out from Pleasanton following the Cinderella route but soon lost track of the pink arrows on the road so then it was a meander through Livermore. Only needed to consult "Dave" for directions once, so that was a plus. We meandered down to Sunol where D and I hung out on the bench in front of the store while Mel & Frank got all studly on us & scooted up and back Kilkare Rd. So their ride wasn't quite as flat as ours.

It was such a great day! Sunny, warm, with a very light breeze that was just enough to keep things cool.

When we returned to Frank's I was forced - forced mind you! - to drink mass quantities of beer. I see a pattern developing.
