    Sat. 1/5 rides

    What! No reports yet

Went out on my ride this morning. It was just a comedy of errors.

The forecast last night was partly cloudy and warmer. They lied.

My new camera came in yesterday, so I also planned on a couple of snaps while I was out and had planned my route accordingly. But this mornings forecast changed that, it's gloomy with showers in the area.

So I layered according to what I expected temp wise, but stuck my rain jacket in the bar bag. As I set out I realized I had forgotten my gloves, so I turned around, and hit my timer. Then hit it again when I came back out, or so I thought.

The wind was cold. I did not wear my fleece tights but shortly wished I had. My quads are still sore from my gym workout and the cold air on them was not pleasant.

The wind was evil. Head winds are bad enough but I had a long section of crosswind. I hate crosswinds. At a couple of points I had to lean into it to stay up.

Finally it began to drizzle a little rain. Actually not very hard, I really didn't get wet. I looked down at my computer at that point and realized it was not registering mileage. Apparently one of the times I hit the timer, I didn't really hit it. So I headed toward home.

I had to figure miles using mapmyride and figured I only did about 15. It actually wasn't as bad as I make it sound. I would have been much perkier if the sun had been out. They are promising sun for tomorrow. We'll see.

I'm still trying out riding sans chamois. Today I learned to make sure my tights are pulled up tight against my body. Too much shifting of the fabric otherwise. Not sore though.

Oh, y'know, now that we're all reporting our miles on BikeJournal, in addition to uploading to MotionBased and SportTracks and Training Center for Mac and Training Center for Windows, there is just no time to report our rides here

33 solo yesterday, damp roads, gritty and a little yucky. 26 today with a new group, pretty much fun, except I let them drop me on the return run when I could've hung with them - was just feeling them out and figuring out what the ride was all about.

Silver: I think I'll go for a ride
    Mr. S: It's raining!
    Silver: Not on the radar
Mr. S: Look out the window
Silver: Yep, looks like it's drying.
    Mr. S: What's the temp?
    Silver: 50 degrees
Mr. S: OK, I'll join you.

    As we're getting layered:

Mr. S: Should I wear one or two layers under my jacket?
Silver: At 50 degrees, one layer and I'd take the arms off the jacket

As we're in the kitchen about to go out:

Mr. S: [Looks at the backdoor thermometer] Silver, it's not 50, it's barely 40

Mr. Silver goes back upstairs to get more layers

6 miles into the ride, the wind goes crazy and the heavens open

Mr S: soaking wet Let's find the straightest route home.

    15 miles into the ride

Silver: Do you want the final leg to be the hilly direct route or the flat, longer route.
Mr. S: I want to go HOME!

20 wet cold miles at 16.5 mph average

Next time, I think I'll check the weather myself first

I celebrated with a big glass of caffeine free, diet WATER!

    Silver's perspective:

Mr. and I went out for a ride! It was wonderful! We had such a good time. I was so glad to be getting my first miles for the year. I was dressed perfectly for the weather and we only had a slight wind and light mist to deal with. I could have gone another 10 miles. Mr. really pushed me on the first part and then we both took it little easier on the way home since we were fighting the wind.

I found that I didn't mind the light rain too much with the temp in the low forties and the wind not too strong. I also found that my pink jacket is really turning out to be a great cold weather jacket.

20.16 miles at 16.2 avg miles (I circled the block a few times waiting for Mr. to get ready)

I celebrated with a cold Diet Vanilla Zero! Yum!

I got in 26 miles with 1400 feet of climbing before the rain came back. It was about 40 degrees out.
