Lise, do you cook rice a lot? One of my best kitchen purchases ever was a rice cooker. Absolutely perfect every time.

I do cook brown rice a fair amount. I love the taste of white basmati rice, but I believe its nutritional value is about...nil. How's the rice cooker for ease of cleaning?

Pretty good. Just lift out the little metal bowl for the rice/water/etc, wipe it out and throw it in the dishwasher (if you have a REAL dishwasher, you might be able to skip the pre-wash, but ours is sorta wimpy) but I've never tried making brown rice in mine... so I'm with you... Nanci, how does it work on brown rice?

It has a little aluminum pot, non-stick? that lifts out and is simple to clean. The rice gets into a little crust thing on the pot that flakes right off.

Have you ever had brown rice with French's Freeze Dried Onion Rings crumbled into is??? OMG- it's _so_ good.

Oh, now that sounds delish. If I can manage to not eat all the onion rings right out of the can! OK, I'll pick up a little rice cooker. I like the "flakes right off" and "throw in the dishwasher" parts. I don't really like that instant rice in bags, and I hate scrubbing out the pan when I cook rice. I really do like corn tortillas, but sometimes, you want rice! Thanks for the tips.

Pinot Gris is about 21-24 brix. About 13-14% alcohol.

brix? Hmmm.... The only gauge I know is 00, 01, 02 etc. I am trying to learn to lik white wines but so far I only like the sweeter ones (02's). Gewurtz, reisling, ehrenfelser fall into that category so far.

Lise - there are guys like that out there and you will find one. I chose not to drink for about 20 years and got so sick and tired of the pressure to drink. What business is it of anyone's if I don't want any? Why do they even care? I figure it just made them uncomfortable about their own drinking. It wasn't like I was being high and mighty about it. I got the most pressure from my own family... They all thought I was just being anti-social. (In actual truth I avoided it because it encouraged my ex to drink and that was not a good thing.) And they were all so happy when I started drinking again after I was separated... People are weird.

a rice cooker is the best kitchen investment we ever made. it is so easy to clean, the rice is always perfect and it can keep rice hot for hours. this is great when dd wants rice for lunch and dh and I are planning stirfry for dinner.

brown rice works will in the cooker as well. yes, it takes longer, and you have to play around a few times to get the rice to water ratio perfect, but, you can definitely do brown rice.

Also it seems I need to be more specific to the universe, she should be single. Not like the gal who asked me out recently and (I think I'm safe here, she doesn't bike and never will) says "Oh, I should tell you my GF of 4 years? I thought we were breaking up but now she wants to get back together and I'd just like to have someone neutral to talk about this with"

Well I worked my a$$ off all day and the wall is almost finished. I am bagged, but we're going out to the little restaurant down the road for a late appie supper and to listen to a live blues/jazz guitarist. H'es supposed to be really good. Hope I can stay awake.

kelowna: Yep, that would be Isaac, if I didn't have a flat screen monitor! I have a great picture somewhere of him conked out on my desk with my master's thesis up on the computer screen. There's a bag of pretzels and can of Diet Coke on the desk. Sums up my grad school experience. Oh, and driving up to Madison, Wisconsin and spending a gazillion dollars on the phone with this ...well, we'll just say ex. This was before anybody much used email. Imagine how much I could have saved. Imagine what I could've learned in grad school if I weren't obsessing about that "relationship" nonsense!

Dinner's finally done. Did you know that chicken takes longer to bake when it's half-frozen going into the oven? What's that about?

Kelownagirl- is that a mac with OS9 or OSX jaguar/panther/tiger? Such a cute kitty... looks a lot like Tigger from my childhood. =) Could ya give miss Allie-cat some ear scritches and jaw rubs for me...?

That's my old imac - I think it had the first version of OS10 and OS9 on it. I have a cheapo eMac right now but it serves its purpose. Would love a flat screen but .... sigh... I'd rather buy bike stuff.

nope everything else is just a toy. I have a G4, it's almost 10 years old, running OS 10.2 and purrs like a kitten. It works fine, running DSL sure I'd like a flat screen too but I need to revamp the kitchen and there's bike stuff....

and that would have to be OS jaguar/panther/tiger/kitty cat.

Lise if she has a brother I'll let you know. You may have the fit-smart-spiritual-couldn't-care-less-that-you-don't-drink-and-really-dig-women guys. Not that there's anything wrong with them that is, some of my best friends are guys
