Some friends who went to the Tour last year brought back the directions for a TV they bought and could never get to work. Something had obviously been lost in the translation because it kept talking about a cowgirl. That was only the start of the list of "huh?" items.

Computers. I have never tried a computer translator thing. I just rely on my rusty archetypal childhood French.

I know what you said, just not sure if Babelfish translated my response correctly. Sure hate to find out I said something completely rude, only partly rude would be okay though.

You can tell my 2 years of college French really stuck with me, huh? I can read a bit but not speak it at all.

I received a spam email one day (you know - the nigeria dead relative ones) that was in french. That was unusual. I gave it to one of my colleages that is French. She thought I had suddenly remembered the 5 years of french that I took and can barely remember and had become creative. Unlikely.

I have to go run and sample - so no time to do the dialect thing. Having dillbird reply reminded me of something Mr. Fish did. He replied to some survey or something with our dog's name (Roux). He called him Roux DeDog. That dog has received newspapers, magazines, and all sorts of junkmail and phone calls. You never know who you name will be sold to! Off to sample the fishies!

I have a mental image of my dog (pictured here) sitting at the computer, looking intently at the screen, looking down at his credit card, carefully typing in the numbers... as he orders stuff online.

It's a good thing it's not toooo easy to buy stuff on line, or I'd have stuff arriving from all over that Isaac that cat ordered when he felt it necessary to sleep on the keyboard.

Love the dialectacizer. Can I find one that translates my (very good) Spanish into Spanish that my patients from the highlands of Ecuador can understand? One day I walked in the room and said, "Buenas tardes, yo soy Lise, la partera." The little Ecuadoran woman tapped herself on the chest and replied, "NO SPEEK ENGLEES!" I said, (in Spanish), "But I'm speaking Spanish!" She replied, "NO ENGLEES!" Sigh.

Good news on the medical front: All the tests were normal. She checked iron level, electrolytes, thyroid. All fine. Echocardiogram is next Tuesday. I'm working on the less-caffeine thing. Again, sigh. Glad to have the good news from the doc.

PS: Beta, yeah, you gotta read all the posts. Sorry. We did, and we can't let you slack, much as we like you. That pesky doctoral program will wait!

Well, you know how Isaac translates in Hebrew, don't you? At least according to all the baby name dictionaries, it means "Laughing One." I keep telling Izaak the Wonder Poodle that it doesn't mean he can laugh at us as we jump to his every whim (it's really my hubby that does the jumping ).

Thanks for the medical update. Keep us posted on the next step. Lowering caffeine intake sucks, doesn't it? I also found out I could tolerate caffeine better with no BC pills. Better living through the right chemicals . . .

Oh man, Nanci - here I was struggling not to play with Babel fish all day and now you give us this!!!

Lise - god news about the medical tests. However, for me having to cut back caffeine would be EXTREMELY difficult. I only have one a day, though...
