After the little tif with the woman who was selling "used underwear" I thought I should step up and introduce myself since I've been stalking these awesome pages for months now!

    Real name: Julie
Where do you live? DFW area

Explanation of your handle: I picked this as an AOL instant messenger handle 13 years ago and its stuck.

    Age (general or specific) 27

    Occupation: violinist

Favorite bike: Orbea Diva. The name is perfect. It rides like a dream. Most of the mens bikes, even the tiny ones, are too big for me so I have to dream within the narrow WSD lines. SRAM however fits all sizes

What's in your stable? Bianchi Dama Elena. Nice color, not fast enough though

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 32.3 Down Kelly Hill. Thats pretty damn good since I have a triple!

Most memorable moment on my bike: I was riding near my rents house in the country near sunset and a young deer was on the side of the 1 lane road. He couldn't find a place in the barbed wire to escape so he ran alongside me for about 1/4 mile. After that he jumped the fence but continued to run with me for a while. It felt like when I was snorkeling with the dolphins in Hawaii.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Oh man, at my 2nd triathlon there was a mix up and I ended up swimming after everyone EVERYONE else was done. Then, when I got on the bike I had people to pass and pass and pass and pass. Like 100 people at least. It was so awesome that I did my best bike time yet that day, despite the 12 mph headwind for 1/2 of the course.

Yup, a pro in an orchestra I am. I had to take 3 days off concerts this weekend because I had a little spill where the Bianchi left me on the ground....

    Wink I've been procrastinating

    ...so, here I go...

    Real Name: Dee

Where do you live? Land of the Microsofties

Explanation of your handle: I'm a San Diego Chargers fan, and it was given to me by the guys in the football pool.

Explanation of your avatar: My Holland Exogrid

    Age: Stuck in middle age

    Occupation: Stuck in middle management

Favorite bike: Depends on my mood

What’s in your stable? Serotta Coeur d'Acier; Holland Exogrid; Salsa Casseroll
Fastest speed on a road bike? A frog hair over 40 a couple of times descending Mt. Rainier & Mt. St. Helens. I have better things to watch than my computer when I'm going over 30.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? My brother & I on our first bikes.

What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told? Geez...it wasn't a lie, but I took some of grandma's baking walnuts without asking. She figured out it was me, and I felt so bad that I disappointed her...never let her down again in her 100 years!

Most memorable moment on my bike: I remember when the attached pictures was taken...very shortly after my training wheels were removed.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Crossing the finish after 1 day riding Seattle to Portland with my friends, with my mom waiting for us.

Explanation of your handle: I live on the stuff
    Explanation of your avatar: avatar?

    Age (general or specific) 35

Occupation: whatever the temp agency says it is

Mountain-ish: My old bike, a target MTB with Kenda road tires

Fastest speed on a road bike? umm...21 downhill.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? soon
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Sure. I can keep up at that pace...

Most memorable moment on my bike: First group ride. I had been invited by a friend, and showed up to meet a serious group of riders, pulling my mountain bike out of my truck, wearing a t-shirt and converse. I was too embarrased to even leave. When I asked how far they rode and they said "40 miles", I almost threw up. Instead, I went with them. The memorable moment came at the rest stop. When I came out of the restroom, the guys I was riding with applauded, saying it was awesome that I kept up with them, on a bike that weighed 4 times more! I've been riding ever since!

Roadies often get a bad rep but once again here is where they really shine in encouraging new riders. God bless their hearts. And welcome to the group Lori!!! Giving you a new Trek makes that boyfriend a definite KEEPER!

Age (general or specific) : 19

    Occupation: College student

Favorite bike: I need your help on that one Have been away from biking for a while, but sooooo want to get back into it -- which is why I joined here.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? How about some silly pics of me. Oh what fun.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Probably the most recent guy I dated for a while. Even though I walk pretty well with my prosthesis, it's far from perfect. I told him I "hurt" my leg skiing Yeah right. Fortunately, we didn't go on more than three dates, so he never was the wiser that I was missing my right leg

Most memorable moment on my bike: Probably a few weeks ago -- when I tried riding again Fell flat on my face. Got to get my balance back again!

Most fun ever had on a bike? Went for a long ride in the alpine region of southern Germany in the summer. Oh sooo beautiful!

    Hi Brooke,

    Welcome to TE!

Can I ask you about your prosthetic: what happened and how you ride with it?

    Thanks!
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

jump right in and enjoy the fun.
Crazy Canote is not the one with the most posts. Her 3000 is rather modest compared to some people.

Hi Brooke and welcome to TE! Hope you have fun on the bike and on the forum.

I'm also anxious to learn about your leg, 'cause I'm aware of someone who lost his leg from the knee down (including the knee) recently who's a big-time cyclist, and he's was pretty desperate about not being able to cycle anymore. I'd love to be able to pass on the information.

But of course there are lots of other topics we should be talking about!

By the way you might want to beware about having your full name out there... you never know. The people on the forum are really cool, but there are creeps lurking everywhere. :S

    Tailwinds to you.

Oh, I just saw this thread. Oops.

    Real name: Paula

Explanation of your avatar: see above

    Age (general or specific) 37

Occupation: Field Applications Scientist for a biotech company that makes and sells research instrumentation - basically I travel a lot and visit our customers and train them in how to use the instruments and software.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 45 mph, a couple of times descending in the bay area

What is the biggest lie you've ever told:
Must have been something as a kid...I'm a quite truthful person (to a fault sometimes).

Most memorable moment on my bike:
Probably climbing Mt. Diablo, Mt. Hamilton, and Mt. Tam in the course of 5 days...I ended up adding on the baby mountain (San Bruno Mountain) 2 days later.

Most fun ever had on a bike?
Definitely my solo tour in Ireland!
