So, I finally got a picture of my brother and me with our very first bikes (notice my training wheels). The photo is not in great condition, but I love it anyway.

My wonderful grandmother gave me my first bike. I adored her and I adored that bike!

And here is a clearer picture of what I looked like in my younger years.

    Enjoy!

    Awww, biciclista, aren't you nice!

What I notice about both pictures is that I am wearing a dress. In the 1950's all good little girls wore dresses. I HATED dresses!! So, I guess I wasn't a very good girl!

You all make me wish I had a picture of a little me and a bike. But my father forbade us to have bikes so we had to do back-alley riding, so to speak. I joke all the time that I wonder what he thinks in heaven about his family having their only little Livestrong Challenge cycling team. He's probably telling my mother how he'd wish we wouldn't ride, while my mother tells him not to worry so much and isn't it a nice thing we are doing in honor of my sister.

I have to dig through and at least find a pic or two to scan and post. Since I never looked so good as I did at 5 or 6, there should be no embarrassment there. I definitely peaked far too soon!

Zen, I honestly don't remember the occasion. It was probably a Sunday morning and we were either going or coming home from church (we always dressed up for church).

And I was always sooo short that my bike seats were always too high - I stood up a lot when I biked. I remember when I got my first "banana bike" - I was so excited to be able to sit down and pedal.

I am now only 5 feet tall and the only bike that I have ever found that fits me properly is made by Terry. As you know, they specialize in making bikes for shorter women. I have the Terry Classic - the one where the front wheel is shorter than the back wheel. It fits me perfectly!

Sure why not? Their culture is based on avoiding technology, not keeping the women down.

Wasn't a technology thing, it was a danger thing. He thought the streets of Pittsburgh were too dangerous for his kids to be riding bikes on. If he could see us now......
