I hate challenges that I suck at. I've only lost 1 lb. Winter is my killer time. Too cold to ride, too cold and icky to run, and I have no general motivation. I can't wait for spring.

I'm down a few pounds, mostly thanks to the flu. According to our scale, my metabolic rate has dropped from almost 1800 to 1590Which means I pretty much only lost muscle.
Time to hit the weight room! My goal this week is to maintain weight and increase my metabolic rate.

jesvetmed - welcome!! Also welcome to Cyclasutra!
To everyone who isn't losing or who has only lost a little bit- THAT IS STILL FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!! It really doesn't mean that you suck at this at all - most people are PUTTING WEIGHT ON at this time of year - to not gain or only lose a little is to win!Keep it up, or um, I mean down or the same?!?
Well...........
I got on the scale first thing this morning - reading = 154.2. I waited for the computer to boot up and updates to do their thing - and hopped on the scale again =154.8, maybe 5 minutes between weigh ins.
very confusing
so I am going to go with 154.6
We got a snow day today - no school for the kids. I promised that we could make sugar cookies - I WILL NOT have any. I can do that - I have done lots harder things than refuse cookies in my life.
Have a great day and a great weekend.
I am going to go squeeze my kids and enjoy having them home for the day! I LOVE snow days!
Geez, I was 120.3 and 120.1 all week and this morning I woke up to 121. Ah well, such is life.

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one struggling, although I wish none of us were struggling. And thanks Flybye for the encouraging message to everyone. It made me feel a lot better.
I was getting pretty frustrated with myself. I'm down a whopping .2 lbs today. I weighed twice after a few minutes to makes sure it was accurate. So I'm at 148.4 At least I didn't go up any more and I'm down a tiny bit in total.
So next week my goal is to write down everything I eat and keep an eye on my calories. I'm lazy about doing that and it can't be helping.
Great job everyone. I hope each week is more successful than the last and we all just keep getting healthier.
Flat for a few days now... 202.5.
Time for some exercise!

Finally off 133, down a whole pound to 132. I'm like the rest of you.......my weight can fluctuate 3 pounds or more for no real reason. Don't get it, but as has been said it's better than gaining the winter 10 or 15.
OK, down a pound today...maybe just water or whatever, but the last 3 days I have had some HARD workouts, and I have not eaten anything after 7:30pm. So, I'll take it. We'll see what happens next week.
159 today. 19 pounds to go.

Hi Everyone,
Just checking in. I am on vacation in Maine at Sunday River with my DH for our 30th wedding anniversary.
I downhill skied yesterday and today. I'm also planning on skiing tomorrow. Coming home on Sunday. Having a fabulous time, but no scale in the room.
I promise I will weigh in first thing on Monday morning.
Cheers,
Lynette
I talked to a weight loss counselor today at an LA Weight loss center. I thought that I'd pass on what she shared with me - it may not be new news to anyone, but it helped me.
In order to lose weight, we need to be consuming between 1200-1400 calories per day. Too much and obviously we gain, too little, and our metabolism shuts down a bit to conserve. If we are to lose, we have to stay within this range for at least one week to see a loss of about one pound. So, if we are good on days one through six and then blow it on day seven (which I just did) then we will only achieve maintenance.
Also, if we are exercising and burn 400 calories in a workout but don't add those calories back into our diet, we will again, put our metabolism into conservation mode.
It only takes an extra 3500 calories a week or 500 per day for a week straight to gain one pound.
I think where I am going wrong is that after six or so days of being good, I hop on the scale and see that I am only down .2 or so and then I get frustrated and think "what the heck" and I blow it one day.
I am also going wrong when I exercise and don't add those calories back into the day. Generally I will work out hard one day, rest two, and repeat the process. On the day that I work out, I am just not all that hungry to I don't eat too much.
I picked up a copy of the "Calorie King" and starting tomorrow - yes, Superbowl Sunday - party at my house day - I will start journaling.
It is so easy to mindlessly eat and extra 100-200 calories. I guess I am just going to have to be the calorie vigilante for awhile!
Well, I hope this "food for thought" (pun intended) helps.
No change, still at 160. I started Weight Watchers today on the flex plan counting points. Hope for better results next week. Now if I can just drag myself out of bed and get to spin class tomorrow morning.
Bummer . . . no change. Am biking on a five-day tour next week, so maybe that'll have some effect. I hope, I hope . . .
Hey all!
Sorry I've been MIA lately! We just made the final decision to move across the country this month, so I've been a little busy!
I will post an updated spreadsheet tomorrow. For me, this week's weight: 161.0 lbs. I'm actually fine with this though, because my weight loss efforts have totally been put on the back burner for awhile. In the midst of everything that I have going on, I'm going to be happy to maintain this month. The last time I did a major move (FL to NC 3+ years ago), I gained. My goal is to make NC to OR have less impact on my body!
Oh, and personally, I think everyone is doing really, really well. Even if we aren't losing, we keep tracking, checking-in and trying. Half the battle is not giving up...and I think that's worth a pat on the back.![]()

i'm 138.4, which is down .6, this is soooo slow. but i'm ok with that! i rode my bike to work all 4 days this week and also did 3 spinervals an hour each. i've been so good on my weight watchers, but today i'm going out for mexican with my family who's visiting for the weekend, then tomorrow i'm going to a super bowl party so i guess i better just do what i tell my kindergartners: make good choices.
