Yay... I got my first road bike!

I finally found a bike that fits! My area has a ton of bike shops, yet the yellow pages in my phone book are filled with big, black Xs because not one of them carried a 47cm in stock for me to try out, with the exception of one Giant/Trek dealer. Those LBS guys said those were the right size for me, but I didn't feel too comfortable on either of them. In all, I visited to 13 bikes shops without any luck.
So I drove 30 miles inland to the lone Specialized dealer who had a 48cm Dolce Elite in stock. Lo and behold... perfect! Loved it. Light as a feather, and the sloped crossbar made standover easy. Those guys spent nearly 2 hours with me going over everything, and even offered me the bike at $300 off (it's a 2006). They threw in pedals and a free fit, too. What customer service, I felt like I was at Nordstrom!
I am going to pick it up this weekend, as it needs some adjustment, and I will have it fitted then. My experienced friends have all told me its an excellent starter bike so I am very excited about hitting the road.
Now, if only the weather cooperates and it cools down a bit!
Aggg... I'm so excited I can't stand it.

I test rode that same bike in a 44". Absolutely beautiful!!! But as a beginner rider, I wasn't ready for drop handlebars, so I bought a Terry Classic that had straight handlebars.

Isn't it nice when you finally find a bike shop that really cares? I ended up getting my new road bike at a shop that is 40 minutes away, too. I was there for over 4 hours as I test rode bikes and got fitted.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!

    Thanks!
I saw a notice posted at the store about their big parking lot sale in August. I was so happy with the store, I told all my bike friends about it and now they're planning on heading to the sale.
Isn't it amazing what a little customer service can do?

Hey hey hey - comparing the LBS to Nordstrom is high praise indeed! Do they have as good a shoe department as Nordstrom ?

Congratulations on your new and first road bike - isn't it darn exciting?

Good luck and let us know how it goes

    Cassandra,
I have a pair of Shimanos with SPDs that I use for spin class, but I wanted to know more about upgrading to a real road bike shoe. We went over all of the different shoes they had in stock and the guy says, "... and these are the higher end stuff but they're kind of expensive. They are $200!"

I tried not to laugh. I just kept thinking, "Man, if you think $200 is a lot for a pair of shoes, you've got a lot to learn about women!" Apparently, he's never watched Sex and the City.. nor shopped for shoes at Nordstrom.

I didn't even go there when he started talking about the prices of saddle bags!

Congratulations, Bluetree. And I'm happy to hear we have the same bike, mine is my first road bike as well...but it sounds like you got a better deal on yours. I loooove my dolce elite, it was the best purchase I could have made and so far I've put more miles on it than my car.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!
