Woo Hoo!
Finally, after 1 1/2 years of training (ITB knee problems last year...) after getting a tri bike, I finally was able to enter my first triathlon and took 4th in my age group at the Tri-America Oly Tri in Lousiville, KY.
Though I had a slow swim in the Ohio River (blech) I rocked on the bike and made slow but steady time on the run (didn't want to over do it because my ITB is still giving me problems--oh yeah, and my legs felt like stumps anyway and probably couldn't have gone any faster even if I didn't have knee problems). Can't wait to do another one but have to work around my husband's schedule. He flys for UPS and we have no family in the area that I can foist the kiddos off on. (Babysitters don't like getting up that early either...)
Oh yeah. If you find you get permanent ink on your tri suit (for those of us who have something that isn't black), spray hairspray on the ink smudges and rub it a little, then throw it in the washer. Do it again if all the ink doesn't come out. I've done this with ball point pen marks, so I thought I'd try it on my tri suit and it worked great!
Question for anyone who may have experienced something similar. During the bike I had to bend down to the right to adjust something on my bike and I got a nasty cramp in the muscle along my rib cage just below and to the right of my xyphoid process. I had to straighten up and knead the spot to make it go away. It returned a couple of times after I finished the triathlon while I had to bend over to change out of my tri suit. Any thoughts on what's going on?

Congratulations! How exciting! I'm so happy for you. I've never (yet) gotten a cramp like that while on the bike. I'm glad you were able to work with it. Any pictures? Hmmmm?![]()

WOW! Congrats! You did a great job! What an accomplishment.
Uuummm... it sounds like you had a side cramp of sorts. When I overexert myself in competition, I get this horrible cramp under my ribs on my right side. It typically happens when my breathing becomes labored and I am working too hard. I have learned how to massage it out while breathing deep.
Keep up the great work!
