    Bike Carriers

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I am looking to travel with my bike for the first time this year and am interested in purchasing a bike carrier for the plane. Does anyone know of a good carrier to purchase? Most of what I am seeing is over the $250 range, and this seems a little high for a "box". Any suggestions?

I've thought of doing that, but am a little concerned about the safety of the bike. Plus, you have to find a box on the other end of the trip, since they won't hold up well enough to bring both ways.

ok then watch for a hard case on sale or on ebay. I guess for me, if the box was significanlty cheaper and money is an issue, getting one for each way is a cheaper deal. But I know folks that reuse them numerous times with a little help from packing tape, assuming the airline doesn't trash it. and I also know folks that figure keeping thier $3K bike in a $229 case is a good investment. The one that Performance has is $50 off right now

Colorado Cyclist has a box for $100, not sure how sturdy it is, though.

I use an IronCase, which goes for about $250, but you can probably find it cheaper on eBay. The case is durable, easy to pack, fairly lightweight, and has rollers.

You might check with some of your local bike clubs or bike shops. Some rent bike carriers to members.
