So how are the feet and knees with the pounding? Amazing what hurts immediately on a run.

The only thing to be said about running is that you burn calories more intensely. If you just want to burn a few hundred calories a day a run will take care of that pretty efficiently.

That's what I am hoping. Burning some pounds would sure make Death Ride more fun next year.... But I also know I tend to get injured while running (IT band stuff) so I am trying to get into it slowly. It's more a run/walk anway. I HATE running downhill, especially on trails. So I try to run up and walk down.

If someone catches me in running shoes, I tell them I really only shuffle.

She's got the voice down. It's a little creepy.

Is that what he's saying? That scene with the llama is one of my favorites. I thought he was saying, "Tina! Eat your food!" I'll have to cue it up again. The look on the llama's face is the best. She seems to be saying,"Haroungh?!?" If we ever have that TE/TD reunion, you'll have to bring the PP so we can laugh our butts off.

CC, that box got to Australia pretty darned fast! I sent it last Saturday. 6 days from Chicago to Oz. Enjoy the treats! Eat them for breakfast!

The date tonight is dinner and a concert in a small venue: http://www.corderomusic.com/ that's the band. My brother sent me their CD and said, "Go see them! They are coming to your town!" He literally called, emailed, and wrote me that I have to go see them. He'll be in town for my b-day next week, so you know I have to go. When Mr. P. called, I suggested we go do that. We haven't actually spoken--the miracle of cell phones. We hadn't talked for 10 days--I figured he wasn't interested, and it was OK with me. But then he called and wanted to see if I wanted to get together, remembered my bday ( a week early), which impressed me with thoughtfulness, so...OK. We shall see.

(Why must the cat sit with his tail over my wrist when I'm typing? He's lying ontop of the mouse, with his tail resting my wrist, the tip flicking back and forth over the keyboard. An added degree of difficulty with the typing.)

Kelownagirl, how'd you avoid the dating? I was with my ex for 6 years, in a sort of stunned celibacy for 4 years after that, then started dating on line. Was with one guy for 7 months, that ended a year ago April. This go-round has been tough. Back in April my heart got pretty sore over a sudden disappearance by a guy I was pretty interested in. I am done with the online stuff for the time being. This current guy (I believe fishdr dubbed him "Mr. Potential) is an intro from a friend at work. I really am fine being single, but I would like so much to be part of a happy couple. It's been a looong time. I haven't really been happy in my love life since the early years with my ex, about 10-12 years ago. Hope springs eternal.

Have a fun time! I'll be home trying not to let my cold develop. I can't remember the last time I had a cold. I don't like it! I'm at the scratchy throat runny nose phase. I have a 40 mile ride and picnic tomorrow.

I think I read somewhere that Pinot Noir was good for colds.

I am out of good ideas for dinner.

I don't think I would have the heart for online dating again. Man did I meet some case studies.

I managed to avoid the dating scene in a most unexpected way. My first date about a month after the separation was with a teacher I work with. I went to the staff xmas party as his date on a lark. Turns out we hit it off in a most amazing way. It's surprising how little you can know about someone you work with. Neither of us had ever thought about one another "in that way," and in fact, we've known each other as neighbours, our kids went to school together etc, for over 15 years. So, he was my friend before he was the love of my life. Two years later, we're still together, planning to get married eventually. I'm in no rush other than that it's kind of weird since we still both teach at the same school and everyone now knows we're together... Being legally married might make things a bit more "comfortable." Anyway, I certainly don't envy you having to play the field again. Some of the stories my single friends have told me make me shudder. The online thing is an entirely new angle that wasn't there when I was last single...

Nanci - Do you guys have Cold FX in the states? I have managed to cut short the last two colds that began to develop by taking it at the first sign of the sniffles. Not sure if it was the Cold FX or luck, but it might be worth a try. Of course wine is always good too....

MP. did you say you were running on the Dipsea course?

Um. I think "running" actually is not the right term at this point. But yes, I am on the Dipsea course. The second level of the Dipsea steps starts just a short way from my house. So I get 2 levels of the steps, and then I am on the trail part. I've decided a good goal for now is an out and back to Muir Woods (maybe 1/4 of the whole length of the course), and then work on increasing the distance. I really don't want to get injured, but at my "fast hiking, sometimes running" pace I should be okay.

I was thinking of you when I was on the trail part. You are one who should do the Dipsea with your whole Wickham thing. I have a friend who's very competitive at the Dipsea and she also does the double and the quad Dipseas.

There are about five trail run events (each of them having 5 - 10ks all the way up to 50k) before the end of the year. I think maybe I will choose a 10 - 20k as a goal. The trail events tend to be more like fast hiking than the street events.
