Hi everyone. Team Varna II has arrived in Casa Grande AZ (where it is a balmy 100 degrees by 9 am), in hopes of taking home the Dempsey MacCready Prize in competition that will start this coming Friday. I will be posting a link where you can follow the adventure in the near future. In the mean time, keep the good thoughts heading our way!

Cool! So what is your role on the team?

I've been doing a little reading up on the speed records set on the Bonneville Flats so I'm rather curious. Seems to be a bagillion ways a speed record can be recorded.

    Dempsey MacCready Challenge

I'm the crew, or as I like to put it, the bondo and bandaide lady. We've spent the last three days fitting Varna to the teams rider, Rob English, doing last minute fine tuning and the fun stuff....sanding and painting. The bike looks great, Rob is in top form and rides the Varna like he was born in it, it's all down to the wire now with the competition beginning on Friday.

As far as the weather is concerned, the mornings are beautiful here. Quiet wind, and around 80 degrees. The guys went for a around a 15 mile ride this morning to stretch their legs while I followed in the van with gear....a SAG's work is never done. They are planning to run the challenge early to avoid the inevitable heat that builds the minute the sun comes up. I've been amusing myself by riding our Wishbone around the paths and parking lots around the motel. The highways here are a little scarey to ride. Everyone seems to drive 70. There is an active cycling following around here and we were pleased to have two MTB riders find us this morning when we were out in the middle of nowhere training and bombard us with questions. Funny thing that happened is that one Roadie went by and didn't even blink....like you can miss a Varna whipping down the road at 50 mph. Watch for more updates at http://veloliner.com/dmc06.
